well this is my first post, and maybey i could get some helpful advice, ive looked at these forums before and everyone seems nice and helpfull, well first of all im embarrased to say im 13, turning 14 in april. ya i may look like a kid dreaming about a item over 100$, but, surprisingly im basicly a techno nerd for things like this. i own an older laptop (compaq armada m700). Wow old ya i know, anyway, i really need a new laptop, so i was thinking about getting an alienware Area-51m 5500. Well as you know (maybey) there isnt any real job a 13-14 year old can get . Well, i can get about $300 or so selling online gaming stuff, such as runescape accounts. Also i was planning to sell some of my old games i dont play anymore, along with some trading cards. but still, this small change aint gonna cut it . I need about $2,300 ouch, big price for my age. anyway the main point is, im desperate for ANYONE who can offer me any way or suggestions on how to get some extra money. And i wont give up untill im in the aw family! anyway, so if someone could give me real suggestions on how to get some money that would be great! thanks loads in advance!

save save save....brithday money, christmas money, the pennies you find in the street, and you will hopefully get what you want, good luck man.

(just watch out for in a few years when you get a girlfriend since it will result in you not having money again, or much time for games for that matter)

Time to beg mom and dad, always worked for me. They got me my C64 back in 82' after I begged and begged and begged. Man those were the days, I played "Raid Over Moscow" at my buddies house and I was hooked. Ahhhh, memories.....Thank god for Prozac.

well....best thing is see if it fits into your parents price range and offering to be the best kid on the planet to get it, chores with no bitching etc. you can say it will help your gpa and get you into a great college. parents usually = cash, just don't let them down if you have to try that route. in a few years you'll be 15 and 7 months(learners permit) you have no debt and you probably live at home. working on the side i was able to save up 2800+ dollars when i was 16 in about a year and a half. oh yeah, DO NOT get debt until you have the means to pay it off. no joke, read interest equations and apply it to real debt till you wanna puke. as you get older know what real debt is and imagine all of your coming living expenses on top of that. Do well in school and let someone pay you to go to school. My sister studied hard and now she MAKES 30k a year studying engineering and getting a doctorate. If you're serious about a large purchase, save everything, when you make that large purchase you'll feel better for having earned it and it will mean more to you.

I agree...definetly something to finally getting to buy stuff for yourself, but its nice having it given to you while you're young. I was always given awesome stuff, but it didnt mean I didnt appreciate it.

If you're serious then I'll offer you some serious solutions...........

#1.) Ask local small businesses for an "under the table" job. This may include cleaning parking lots to painting to washing work vehicles. If they accept, you decide how much is "worth it".

#2.) Mow lawns. Go around your neighborhood & explain that you'll mow, edge, sweep, whatever. Explain your motive (wanting a laptop) and be sure to have a detailed list of what you'd do. Formal gardeners get anywhere from $50 to $100 per month per house. At $50 a month, you could rack up 2 or 3 houses that you could do on your weekends. This is obviously pending you being able to use your folks' lawnmower/edger/weedwhacker/etc.

#3.) Pet handling. This could be walking, washing, grooming......(grooming takes some skill so if you're not skilled in this you might want to pass on the grooming). If you could walk somebody's dog for a half hour for $5 or $10 bucks, that's a nice hourly wage for a 14 year old.

If you think along these lines, you could probably come up with more on your own. If it's a low-dollar pay, just go for volume. If it's a high-dollar pay, be sure you do a good job.

Good luck!

yeah that's a lot of money to get...

but I'll tell you what: Get on your bike and come over here in Canada... in these times we have a lot of snow... so I'll make to clear out the garage and all til spring, then you can cut my grass til summer... all that plus other various tasks like cleaning the swimming pool and all other task that doesn't let me drink beer in my free time then I'll let you go with your money hehehe ^^

seriously, at that age you can do 2 things: You can deliver the newspaper and you can cut grass. If you do both, you'll be able to save enough in a certain amount of time. I did it and it was fun but also lurns you responsability and what money really worth when you sweat for it...

doing both, maybe with some cash as presents, maybe you can get the money before fall.

When I was 10 I started cutting grass for $5-$8 a yard 15-20 if they wanted it raked. I did this for 3 months to save up enough to buy my Tandy Color Computer. Another bif item was washiing/waxing cars.

Are you a big guy? You could hire yourself out as a bodyguard at school. Or, if you're the kind that cheers for the bad guy, you could always become a leg-breaker for hire as well. I hear extortion is a money-making machine as well. Just don't get caught.

Seriously, I know several people who make a decent bit of money selling random junk on eBay. If your mom or dad is willing to put up a credit card for the fees and stuff, you'd be amazed at what people are willing to pay for useless junk. Might be worth exploring. Visit some garage sales, figure out creative ways to describe junk, and presto! Watch the cash come pouring in.

Play poker! This is a great time for you to learn and play for profitable results. There are a lot of terrible players out there that are willing to donate their money to you. Just read "Super System" by Doyle Brunson and you'll have a competetive edge on your opponents. It's a thick book and you'll be investing a good chunk of your time reading it but it's well worth the reward. Good luck man. DON'T PLAY POCKET EIGHTS!!

Man I did the exact same thing... I started at 11 and worked odd jobs in order to save for my first car... I made a deal with my folks... I explained to them What I wanted and they agreed to go in it half way with me... Of course I became a house cleaning slave on the weekends and mowed non stop....
Bottom line.. If you want it bad enough you can do it..

Whoa, that brings back memories. First games I got with C64 were Ghostbusters and Jumpman. Then I began copying games with my friends,
