Just ran 3dMark03 Benchmark on 7700....

I just ran 3dmark03 and my ending score was 7990.
Is that bad or good? I have slightly OC'd the video card but not much and this was my first time ever benchmarking. There were also lots of things running in the background. Can some other people post their 7700 3dmark03 scores so I can see what I am competing against? Thanks guys.

I guess u should update the graphic driver

The result should be near 9000 or a few more.

I already have the latest nvidia drivers. Is there another company with better drivers out there? Where else would you reccomend I look for newer drivers?

Just re ran 3dmark03 with the settings tweaked a bit on my video card and scored 8429 thats with the latest nvidia drivers as wel as my gpu OC'd as high as it will go anyone have any ideas why I cant score any higher?

Kill all your absolutely non-essential background tasks after a fresh reboot, then run it again. You might be over-overclocking it, make sure that's not the problem. You can try the Omega drivers, as well; just Google Omega drivers or some such, but they don't do a whole lot to increase performance.

What's your configuration, for that matter?

I tried 3dmark03 on my 7700, with 71.80 drivers and the overclocking that the automatic setting of the driver recommended, this was 285 core / 660 memory. The 3DMark03 score I got was a little over 8000 (8016 or so). So, your numbers seem to be in-line with what I see. By the way, the CPU is a 3.2G, with 1024MB memory (single-slot). I think these are very reasonable numbers for a laptop :-)

Thats everything thats the most important. If Anyone has any new ideas for me to get a higher score it would be greatly appreciated.

Since your numbers are in-line with the ones I get, I suspect you have a couple of choices only:

1) Change your graphics hardware, e.g. to the new Mobility X800 modules that are now available (cost ~400-500$). They score excellent in 3dmark (but are only moderately faster in game). See http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=62285

2) Overclock even higher. This is risky (lifetime) and you should consider improving the GPU cooling (I have seen the head conducting pad of the GPU when changing my defective graphics module, this is really crappy)

3) Use drivers which are optimized to give better benchmark scores. This obviously has the disadvantage that games will not get faster. I have no recommendations but I suspect some of the tweaked drivers you get will perform better than the original ones.

Or, just relax and enjoy the excellent graphics performance that was unthinkable in a notebook half a year ago

My suggestion is this: Quit worrying about the benchmarks, pop a game in, turn up all the settings as high as they'll go, sit back, and enjoy your all-but-godly machine. I guarantee you that, after an hour or two of that, benchmark scores will be the farthest thing from your mind.

.............well my comp sux... i think its a 7700... i just ran 3dmark03 with an OC gpu and got under 5000 : ( but i only have a 3.0ghz processor

Ya forget benchmarks I just thought that I SHOULD have been scoring higher. Since I see that I am mostly in line with what the average people here are getting thats fine with me. I wasnt trying to score off the charts or anything I just thought it was low. Thanks for the help everyone.

Using 3dmark03 I scored 11,247 with my ATI 9550 OCed to 425/239 and had all my normal things on like antivirus app ect.

Hi, my results are in my sig, also what are your OC settings mine are now about 320/690 this seems to be stable during game play. Also are you benching at the 1024x768 resolution or the native resolution. Either way from my understanding the GeForce cards overclock but for some reason some will better than others. Look at Justin Sane's numbers I will need to burn my card up before I reach them. like the other poster said, pop a game in and play it. I had my card as high as 350/695 but when I tried to play CS it rebooted, and when I tried to run the 3DMark03 it locked up but during normal internet usage and other normal usage it was fine. Good luck and let us know how things are going.

I did find some spare time and replaced the thermal pad of the GPU. As others already said, the pad is really really crap and does more isolate heat than anything else. As I disassembled the cooler, the metal felt warm to hot while the pad felt cool :-) The termal resistance must be enormous.

I replaced the pad against a Shin-Etsu TC-11 phase-change thermal pad (recommended by AMD for their Athlon XP) and was instantaneously able to overclock the board without any issues. So the limit in your cases might be more the crappy pad than a real limit of the GPU (nVidia announced the same chip in selected quantities to reach 450MHz).

Anyway, I staid at 330/660 which is rock solid and gives reasonable 3DMark numbers (3.2GHz CPU, 1x1024MB):

3DMark 01: 17021
3DMark 03: 8721
3DMark 05: 3760

I'm sure I could clock higher stable but for the sake of robust long-term stability (also in the summer) I think this is the best setting - just 10% over what nVidia specs for memory and chip.

I just ran 3d 03 and scored 9714 I am using coolbits to overclock. And that guy was right the thermal pad on the gpu is junky there was a thread with pics of it and on how to change it for high performance thermal paste. try the search function.

heh banned for sharing a idea go figure. sure I didnt agree on the tray idea being right for me. But the thermal paste idea was pure common sense. infact almost needed on the GPU . I now a guy who took the thermal pad from the AW7700 GPU and placed it on a hot light bulb he said he it took like 10 seconds for his finger to feel heat on the other side. that is some horrible thermal properties. replacing that with a highperformance paste is a no brainer if you plan on OC'ing.
