New Dell M70... pleasantly surprised

Thread Starter
I saw the new Dell M70 and was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely dispise the new Dell inspiron laptop design and the new m70 is using the older style which I prefer. I guess all of our D-dock accessories will still work! Now to find out more about the Quadro 1400. I was hoping to locate a manual for the machine so I could see a picture of the video card, any luck with that?

The 1400 is the professional version of the 6800.. It's a NV41 based chipset, so gaming wise we'll be almost as fast as a standard 6800.. However, if you have the need to do any cad work, look out, this thing is a beast in that department..

I'm going to order mine as soon as I get some sort of confirmation that the 9300 won't have a docking station, and that they don't make a more general 8600 replacement that doesn't cost as much..

Cheers,

dextius

strange, the video option for the M70 in dell small business canada lists it as:

nVidia® NV41GL 4XAGP w/ 256MB DDR2 Video Memory (Is this the 1400??)

AGP?? M70 is PCIe right?

You also get a free 20" lcd monitor and dock port if you order now. I'm tempted to buy one as well but I'm waiting to see if they offer any rebates or I can get a coupon to stack with the free monitor.

Julo - rest assured, the NV41GL is in fact the PCI-X Quadro Go1400.

Elaborate Please

I am interested in getting an M70, and a free 20" LCD would just about seal the deal for me... Is this for real, and if so, where can I find the information about it? Thanks in advance.

Uhh... if you're talking about the M70, go to www.dell.com and click on "Small Business."

Didn't check if the free offer is still up.

Sorry

I was not clear in my earlier post. I was looking for details of the Free LCD and Docking Station offer mentioned in Maklar's post above. I have not found any coupons or freebies associated with the M70, but I am by no means an expert on where to look.

placed order a week ago for M70

Well after alot of research, searching the forums i finally pulled the trigger on a fully loaded M70, I came close to buying the 9200 or 9300 but i wanted a quality notebook with a trimetal case. I hate plastic on laptops. Plus the M70 has a smart card feature that encrypts the whole computer. Without the card the computer is worthless. At least thats how under stand the security works. Anyway i cant wait to get it to i can hit my favorite cafes and chill. It is amazing how much freedom a laptop gives you.

could have got D810 instead and save hundreds of dollars. M70 is 1,000 more over D810 on exact same specification. In my opinion, 1,000 more is major rip off.

different video cards though . . .

Wonder if FanGUI 220 will work on the M70, would be nice to know what temperature the Quadro FXGo1400 idles/loads up at.

kevhuynh - I'll give you benchmarks in about a week

very cool - I just noticed by ofelas specs that it comes with Gigabit lan

atomman- all Latitude D series, Precision M60 as well as M20 & M70 have GigaBit LOM...I think one Inspiron (not sure which model) has it as well.
Sure makes for fast file transfers on a GigaBit switched local network
post #18 of 139
i bet - can anyone recomend a good switch?
atomman - I currently connect 2 wired & 2 wireless systems at home through a Truemobile 2350 NAT Broadband router.

The two wired systems are plugged into a Dell PowerConnect 2608 Gigabit switch; the switch is uplinked to the Truemobile 2350 so all systems share the same broadband connection (cable ISP).
I use the Truemobile 2350 as a DHCP server for all the systems at home.
Works great; I see consistent ~400MBPs file transfers between the two wired systems, as both have Broadcom Gigabit LOMs (M60 & Precision 370). Apparently the Intel PRO/VE Gigabit LOM on some Dell desktops have throughput problems with the 2608 Gigabit switch; updated firmware for the PC2608 is in the works.
I picked up the TM2350 & PC2608 for a total price of $135 shipped, with 3 year NBD On Site Warranty.
If you buy through Home/Home Office, together they'll set you back $89 + $89 with 1 Year NBD warranty & free shipping.
Hope that helped.

Any idea if the gigabit lan works off of the PCI-e bus?
