The German Computer manufacturer Targa launches a Athlon64 based PCI-E notebook (Companion 826) which is may be based on the Arima W622-DK8X.
It is equiped with a 35W Athlon64 3000+ and a ATI Mobility Radeon X700.

For more details look at the Targa homepage:

Turion 64 comes in versions from 25W up to 35W and in models from Turion 64 2600+ up too 3200+ (I think). Even if the MAX thermal is 35W on some versions of the Turion 64, all Turions have improved powermanagement ( along with SSE 3 ) over earlier LV A64 wich were all 35W.

Nice to see that it comes with Double Layer Dual Format DVDRW burner, TV-Tuner, Bluetooth etc and it is still thin & light with the X700 GPU. That's looks like a very good notebook.

AMD 64 3000 come in low voltage version, which is the same processor as the one in Acer Ferrari 3400.

Turion 64 is not yet released so my guess is that it will not be available with Turion 64 CPU before the Turion 64 launch date, April 18. But the really possitive thing happening now is the PCI-express for A64.

I want to know why companies are like that, why on earth would they build a cool a** laptop and use a crappy screen, WXGA WTF? I want to see a WUXGA or a WSXGA+ in that laptop. I mean c'mon. I think there is something wrong with people nowadays, I want my eyes to bleed from the excess resolution. I accept that 12.1" and 13.3" even 14.1" have WXGA but a 15.4" they all should be at least WSXGA+ at least!!!!!!!

Who cares? This means that we might be getting this laptop earlier than expected. C'mon, better resellers who speak my language...

Agreed!!!!! Especialy when Arima provides them with (W)XGA (W)SXGA+ and (W)UXGA! Almost all of the notebook companies goes for the low-end screen. I would also like to configure it myself, just like HP/Compaq, Sony, Dell, IBM, Fujitsu and others lets you do.

(W)XGA feels like half the notebook is missing or something...

Needs a better screen

I agree the screen should support a higher resolution. It does say it is a BrillantView, I presume this is a glossy screen.

My almost perfect notebook would be an AMD64, PCI-E, good graphics card AND a high res glossy screen - hmmm an AMD64 Fujitsu with crystaView

128MB Vid would benicer than 64MB also. Once again sounds like a cheap option, as 128MB should not impact heat dissipation and the 8100 seems to handle it quite well. Also would be interesting to see what type of memory this machine supports.

Cheers

If it is the Arima model, it should be a Turion. Look at the Arima website, there is the Turion - logo at the bottom of the model specs.

It is not Turion64. It is a Mobile Athlon64 3000+ with 35W TDP. The Arima site shows the Turion64 for this notebook type but also lists the Mobile Athlon64 and Mobile Sempron in the tech specs.

Hi Sykra,

I think that it will soon arrive in the Austrian and German LIDL stores. Then you will sure find some reviews in the forums of www.chip.de/forum/forum.html?bwboardid=28. Bad that Targa does not provide upgrade options for the TFT screen !

Bye (Tschüss)

This is not any Arima model, that's for sure. From what I can tell it seems to be the MSI Megabook M635 that was on display at CES'05 only with upgraded Mobility Radeon X700 graphics:

Both the looks and the specs looks very similar to the Targa Companion 826:

Here's the old MSI M635 spec with Mobility Radeon X600 graphics:

3000+ is currently the fastest available low-power Mobile Athlon 64 just have a look here:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...E11030,00.html

A 3200+ model should be available later this quarter. Athlon 64 DTR is being phased out during this half year to be replaced with regular Mobile Athlon 64, but you can forget to use them in any light & thin notebooks though.

For a mobile solution a lv 3000+ and x700 give you power on the go.

The specs you want with a 3800+ and x800 can only be found in a DTR.

I don't think you guys noticed that the german site quoted the LCD panel as having a 20ms response time. This is the first I've seen that before. Anyone else?
