what kind of media do you have? is it supported? is it able to burn at more than 4x? also try downloading the latest patch

The media I have is AVB 8x DVD-R. So I am assuming that it does support the 8x speeds. As a matter a fact when I put them into a Nero and I am ready to write, it gives me a 12x option. Then the Nero "Remaining Time" counter start at about 4:30 min remaining, but it takes A LOT more than, usually 30+. Its getting really frustrated. I will look for a patch to see if something can be fixed. In the meantime some help would great if any1 has had a simliar problem.

Ive read ppl having no problems doing so with this exact same media, but even at 8x I am still experiencing the slow burning speeds. Does any1 know what would cause the drive not to burn at the actual speed? Power Supply failure? Or perhaps not getting the right amount of power required due to perhaps other devices?

if you are like me and have miscelaneous hardware laying around...try a different PSU that you know works...plug the power into the DVD drive only...see if any improvem, ents arise

I had the same problem with my plextor 708A

was using the same media 8x+R and would burn a movie in about 5-10 minutes

all of a sudden it was taking 45min or an hour with the same media.

try this it worked for me

go to control panel

system

hardware tab

device manager

double click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

double click on primary IDE channel,

go to advanced tab and make sure DMA if availible is selected

double click on secondary IDE channel

go to advanced tab and make sure DMA if availible is selected

if for some reason PIO is selected and you cant change it to DMA
which was the case with mine, follow this link to the letter. It has worked for me and many others.

http://sniptools.com/vault/getting-b...windows-xp.htm

do all instruction in that link and reboot.

enjoy your burn speed again.

hope this helps

SO I figured it was something up with my computer, so what I did was a format and what do you know, my speeds are nice and fast. I wll ssave this link for future references, thanks for those who helped.
