HP Pavillion zeXXXX laptop refuses to change resolution...

On my laptop, if I have my resolution set to 1024x768, then my entire laptop screen is taken up and everything is fine. However, if I select 800x600 (or a directX game changes to 800x600), then my screen only uses a part of the screen (basically 800 pixels by 600 pixels at the 1024x768 resolution); it won't expand to use the full screen. Likewise, if I choose a resolution bigger than 1024x768, then my desktop is "bigger" then the screen.

Laptop: HP Pavilion ze4521EA Notebook PC
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility U1 (64MB)

Graphics card driver seems to make no difference. I've tried various different ones and this happens on both windows and linux.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hit F-10 at start and see if theres an LCD expansion option in BIOS. Some of these models support this. Just select yes...
