8200 and 5660 same motherboard?

Does the Dell 8200 and sager 5600 have the same motherboard (mb)?

This forum treates the Dell 8200 as if it were an expensive Sager 5660. If so, the 8200 has an upgradeable video system. The 5660 should as well. The case looks quite different from the pictures I have seen as well.

Is the 8200 made by clevo?

If so is it a model slightly different with a different mb?

If same mb, would 5600 be upgradeable with moderate "surgery" such as when m10 comes out?

According to a page from powernotebooks:

Dell's Inspirion is made by a different ODM, Compal. I'll look into the motherboard thing, though.

By the way, yes, we do treat it like an expensive Sager. It lacks much of what Sager has, along with great customer service. Its screen is equal to that of the 5660, but because they chose to use the P4-M, the performance is not as great. To simply upgrade from two DIMM 512 MB RAM to one DIMM is an extra 200, while Sager only has the one DIMM option and at a reasonable price.

Dell definitely has its pluses, and it's a great computer; its just too expensive compared to a Sager. It doesn't allow a no OS option which many people may want to afford a Sager, and it just doesn't look as cool. I've seen maybe one other OEM that has 2.8 GHz available, other than Sager. I don't know how Sager does it, but they do it, and they do it well.

I would really like to know this too. If i could change the video card to an M10 in a few months, i wouldn't need to wait so long to have it That's the only reason why i'm waiting.

The graphics card is built into the motherboard and cannot be upgraded in the future. This is one thing that hopefully sager will change in the next model, but regardless, a vast majority of laptops have built in graphics cards because by the time the graphics card is out of date, the laptop is not going to be good for gaming anyway. The M9 is incredible though :-) I love it!

Alright, thanks for the reply Beebster. I guess i'll just have to wait. If ATI keeps their word, hopefully it will be out by May at the latest.

lol, hopefully ATI will keep their word. I would hold them to it too, just because they're a good lil company IMO. Especially over the past few years.

Aren't the screens on the 8200 and 5660 different too? I've read here that the Sager screen is only capable of displaying 16 bits of color. I have to do some more research on this to see what other laptop screens are able to display. If someone has a link to info on the web on the subject please post it!

Wow, that's an old but useful post.

I dragged the page out of Dell's site regarding the difference in THEIR displays...

Looks like viewing angles and brightness are the differences.
