hey fellow forumers, does anybody know how sager's upgrade sytem works. What exactly gets upgraded? processor, memory, all the guts ? I am planning on getting the 4760, but once i get it what will i be able to upgrade. And will i have to upgrade everything, or can i select individual items like just the processor ?

I will purchase the low end 4760 with the hope of upgrading to a high end 4760 m-10 maybe with 2.8 ht 800fsb later.

Ball park estimates would be nice too. thanx !!!

I don't have an answer for you, but as a potential new sager owner, I'd like to know this as well.

As far as i know, when it comes to upgrading ur lappy's its usually anything so long as the chassis can support it. Once you get the 4760 im sure you'll be able to upgrade it because as the past has shown, people were able to upgrade their lappys to the now obsolete 8887 and 5670. I think weeks after the initial release the current 8887 and 5670 owners will be able to upgrade to the new specs of the 8890 and 5680. As for your price estimate, i dont know...because im gettin the 5680!

Hope any of this helped

How does one go about it? Just call up Sager and say, "Hi, I bought $FOO, and I see that $BAR is out, I'd like to swap out the guts?"

like mcl I too would like to know how this works. I own a 5670 that I wouldn't mind upgrading if it did not cost too much. Will there be something on the internet listing costs of upgrades or what? I know RAM and stuff like that I can upgrade myself, yet there are still other things that I may want to upgrade. Odds are if I send my laptop in for anything (other than repairs...broken key and latch. ) it will be for a paint job once they offer those

well all i can say is that the current 5670 and 8887 owners who wanna upgrade will have to dish out roughly 300-500 for the new specs that we see in the new releases

if an upgrade is available for ur system (ex. 5670 to 5680 or 8887 to 8890) then u'll contact ur reseller or contact sager directly. the cost will be usually a flat fee...because they will have to exchange the motherboard. u will also have to pay for shipping to and from sager. i'm not sure if this will change in the future..but thats how it was in the past. also...u will also have to purchase a new cpu if ur current one isn't compatible with the new motherboard. they'll send u the cpu back along with ur upgraded computer. they'll be details about all this when the time comes that u r able to upgrade. so all the above information may change. (i got this info from the news section)

Based on past experiences, what does everyone think a screen upgrade might cost? And how long does it take?

I really want the UXGA and am hoping that my employer will spring for the upgrade. But if its too much, or if it'll cost me a weeks worth of work due to the length of the upgrade process, then it just won't happen.

adam

i spoke with adam (pm) and he said things are still being ironed out. but focus is on the 56xx and 8xxx, so as far as the others, i dont know. I have a 5660 and i am definitely getting it upgraded as soon as i possibly can.

We always post in the news section here when/if upgrades are available. We won't know about te details of upgrading to the 8890 or 5680 until weeks after they have begun shipping. They have to take care of new orders first.

From the news forum here is how upgrades were handled on the previous versions:

lcd upgrades:

Prices may not be the same but this may give you an idea on how this will be handled if/when it becomes available.
