Go my friends!

A few improvements, mostly for the X700 (up to +9% in 3DMark2003).

Can you modify it with Patje's tool?

I don't see why not.

I've already read a review and there is no speed increase noticable, so I'm not switching from my precious Omega 4.12 Final unless I need to.

As adrenal_medulla mentioned in another thread, there is fresh Dell's drivers for MR9700 came out just today - A4. I hope these are based on 5.2.

we don't really need to upgrade to that version because there's no imporevments for the mr9700 or mr9800 unless OMEGA bro touch it a little bit

The new driver for 9700 is Catalyst 4.12 based. If you check on the driver for the 9700 in the device manager, it will say the release date it Dec. 07, 04 and 6.14.10.6497 which is same as Catalyst 4.12.

I've modified and installed 5.2 - 3dmark05 gave 1 point over TC 5.1 driver - nothing extraordinary.

But there is something that I noticed in FarCry 1.3. I remember that using 4.12, there was no reflections of vegitation in the water. Maybe I've changed some settings (I have no memmory of doing that) but I cleary remember that all that was reflected was naked ground... Can somebody confirm or deny that trees and bushes are reflected when 4.12 used. Thank you.
---
Edit. Well, now I'm almost positive that the settings in my FarCry were changed and this is the reason why I didn't see palms' refrection before but can see it now. It's probably not 5.2 doing...

Well that just proves the Dells Filewatch doesnt work ! I should have received an email saying there was a new graphics driver and.. guess what ?... I didnt....

Found out on here which can only show to any DELL EMPLOYEES READING THIS....that they need to JUSTIFY THEIR PAYCHECKS and sort out their support issues.

Thanks Forum Mates !!!

I am also using a modded Cat 5.2

Whats your procedure for new drivers installation ? Do you use the DC 3 cleaner ?

Well, if you're talking about Catalyst 5.2 drivers, I can think of one reason why Dell didn't bother - Dell posts their own drivers. In fact, Catalyst drivers unmodified will completely refuse to install on Mobility-chipset video cards.

Edit: nevermind, I think you actually are talking about Dell's own drivers.

By the way, if 9% in 3DMark2003 is the only big performance change (for any video card, whether it's just one or the whole product line), then that pretty much is an indictment of the uselessness of benchmarks.

If ATI can optimize a card or driver JUST for one specific benchmark, and I don't mean by detecting the EXE and "cheating", then it just goes to show how unrealistic those synthetic benchmarks are.

Always benchmark your real games to find out if there's a real world difference. Granted, you can't do that in every game, but you can get a pretty good idea with a few of the usuals.

These drivers were horrible on my XPS. I lost 11fps in the CSS Stress Test. So I re-installed the Omega 5.1's straight away.
