DT: DarthBeavis' Aurora ALX SLI review - now with Duct Tape and Crisco added! - Page 3

When I received mine they left it defaulted to factory settings but there is an ALX profile loaded into the program. Curious if yours was the same.

I just changed mine to ALX. Will see how it does.

Sweet.
The reason I asked about the power and cooling option being on is that my initial benches were less than remarkable. I asked around, changed my profile to ALX from default and switched off the power and cooling option. I am told that it throttles the processor up and down depending on power needs? Don't ask me, i am by no means a processor guy. Anyway I posted high frames and benches. About 20% higher. Temperature increase was about 3 degrees.

Have you OC's your CPU yet?

Also, you get arouind 5700 in 3DMark5. I get around 9600 or 9800. I guess the SLI is really almost doubling the benchmarks since our rigs are the same otherwise.

Yeah, But what I mean is before when I looked at the 3dmark05 score is was way below what I expected. I asked around and someone told me to look at the processor info in the 3dmark05 screen. It stated the processor minimum and maximum speeds. Throttle up and down.(They were different) After fixing it I jumped my score. My FR jumped up in HL2 and Doom3. My processor is clocked at 2.96 and 6800ultra is at 461/1170. I would imagine yours to be the same.

My proc is not oc's. What settings do you have to oc to 2.96 (in the bios)?

Clocked my CPU to 2.8 using the OC feature in the BIOS (8x - tried 10 x but it was too unstable). My 3dMark5 is now over 10K.

Have not successfully OC's the videocards yet.

Nice score! What is the default of your cards? Do they run at different speeds than the AGP? According to that project link your cards are running overclocked. I sent you a PM with mu Guru settings from factory.

db i thought the fx-55 was supposed to be oc'ed from the factory@2.8??? How come you manually changed it??

AW stopped sending them out OC'd because there were some stablity issues reported. I told them don't worry about it, I will lubricate the CPU myself.

Shoot. I just noticed that this is the 5500. oh well. This is the pic from the Alienware/Playboy contest. (Playboy: The Mansion game)

Is that what your are using (you have an Abit mobo?):

ABIT μGuru is the first true artificial intelligence system to be integrated onto a motherboard. ABIT μGuru is a new microprocessor designed by the ABIT Engineers for use only on ABIT motherboards and which allows end-users to reach a higher state of hardware awareness and enlightenment. μGuru acts as a spiritual guide, sharing with ABIT users, tips for hardware monitoring, overclocking, BIOS flashing and audio tweaking functions in an easy to use, Windows-based interface. As a part of the motherboard, only μGuru can completely understand how to optimize the motherboard for ultimate performance. What truly sets μGuru apart is it's onboard memory that allows users to save their favorite overclocking settings for specific applications.

μGuru combines the ABIT Engineered features ABIT EQ, ABIT FanEQ, ABIT OC Guru, ABIT FlashMenu, ABIT AudioEQ and ABIT BlackBox into a user-friendly interface providing users the perfect environment with which to maximize performance and stability. Operating as an independent micro-processor, μGuru effectively frees your CPU resources from performing these functions, further increasing system performance.

With μGuru, end-users will learn the way of performance nirvana and become one with their systems. Without μGuru, the path to higher performance is fraught with peril and disappointment.

Darth, my system came with the ABIT Guru system. I really like it, totally click and set overclocking. I has a big LED readout on the mobo for troubleshooting or reference as the suystem boots up. It's so good I in having to look into water cooling as the Intel boxed fan howls when the CPU comes up on speed.

Yes that is what I am talking about. The OC Guru settings. I was unsure if you had a utility like this , or if you had to manually adjust.

There is an AI overclocker in the Asus bios. You tell it the percent, it does it for you.

I have been messing with the OC settings. Posting some really nice benches. But I always end up putting it back to the default ALX settings. I need to find some better drivers so that my system stays stable. Until then it looks like I will have to keep the FX-55 below 3.0.
