Bootup Problems with 9860

Hey guys, I've got a problem with starting up my 9860 which seems to have just started recently. It's happened to me once or twice, but has happened to my wife everytime she tries to start it up. Here's what happens:

You press the power button for a few seconds to get things started.
(the computer is plugged into the AC adapter, always)

The lights flash showing the hard-drive and then all is silent. But the blue light is still on around the power button and the 3 green lights directly under the monitor are all on.

If I unplug the AC adapter, shut down the computer by holding on the power button for a few seconds, and then press the button to start it up. . . everything works. I've been trying to duplicate this problem, but nothing seems to make it repeat. I'm wondering if it's something my wife is doing or if it's the computer itself?

Hope I don't have to RMA this beast! Thanks to all for you help.

So where's is the problem? This is normal startup behaviour???

Sorry, wrote this too late in the night!

Pressing the power button at this point gives all the green lights, but the computer doesn't actually start. Nothing comes on the screen and the hard drive doesn't even make a noise. The usual BIOS startup doesn't come up either. Just a blank screen.

No matter how long I wait, nothing appears on screen.

That's when I have to shut down the computer, unplug the AC adapter, power up the computer to get a normal boot up with the hard drive and BIOS, then plug back the AC adapter.

Sorry again for now making that more clear.

I have had a similar problem with my new 9860....i currently am having Sager cross ship me a replacement, and sending this one back....besides not being able to boot it sometimes, i also can't bring this system out of standby mode, and the system will occasionally freeze up (randomly).
Some kind of system board defect or memory controller/slot issue...have tried different memory sticks, as well as different hard drive configs, and the latest bios's from sager.
Looking forward to getting my replacement

I'll try the memory stick thing. Thanks everyone for the help. If anyone else has the same problems, please post. Thanks!

RMA might be the best answer but I've had a few work laptops (winbooks) that did the same thing because of faulty batteries. soon as I took the battery out the system ran fine. After the warranty expires in the future bear this in mind. Might save buying a new laptop when all you need is a new battery
