Got My Asus M6BNe

Well the asus M6BNe i ordered is on its way. Got my tracking numer last nite should be here by tuesday

I am so happy with my purchase through discountlaptops, the experience was great. Definetly a 10. They shipped my laptop within 24 hrs, outstanding IMO. The reps were also amazingly curtious and quick in responding to any question (under 4hrs, both email and phone).

Here is to the no dead pixel gods, even though thanks to mathew, DL did a scan for me before shipping .

Well, as I posted earlier I was getting this for my wife here are the specs:

15.4" WXGA+ (1280 x 800) Active Matrix Display
1.7 GHz Intel Pentium M (735) Processor (Dothan - 2048 L2 Cache)
64 MB Dedicated DDR Vram - ATi Mobility 9700 Pro (M11) w/ 4X AGP
60 GB Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
512 MB DDR333 (PC2700) SDRAM (512 MB x 1)
8X DVD / 24x10x24 CD-RW Combo Drive w/ Softwares
Internal 56k Modem
10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet LAN Port
Internal IntelPRO 2200 Wireless Ethernet/Lan (802.11 b+g)
Smart Lithium Ion Battery (4+ hour battery life)
Built-in Flash Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS Pro)
S-video out, 4 USB (2.0), 1 PCMCIA, IR, 4-in1 Card Reader, IEEE Firewire
AC Adapter w/ power cord
Free Deluxe Carry Case
MS Windows XP-Home Installed, CD Included
2 yr ChemUSA warranty w/ lifetime tech support

Ok so here are my questions:

Could someone tell me where I could get an asus built on badge? not a great fan of the chembook one.
Also could one of the many asus owners tell me the spec on the RAM cause I might by a second 512mb for it in a couple of months.

I'll post a revew for DL on reseller ratings. Should be up in a couple of days. So far extremely pleased.

i'll give you a huzzah! just got a M6Ne a month or so ago, and i love it...hope you're as happy with yours as i am with mine...as far as the badge, i've seen some threads about them...the search on nbf is pretty good...here's one, but i'm sure with some digging you could find more, though there's something in this one about contacting asus to get one...

anyway...congrats on the machine!

Thanks,

Its so close I can smell it, it will probably arrive late today or monday morning. I looked at the other thread and fallowed the advice there to try to get the asus badges. So thanks

How about exact specs for buying a second 512mb ram, maybe even a link to a newegg one thats recommended.

Can I use a higher rating ram in conjuction with the original (like pc3400 w/ original pc2700) or if not exactly same specs it wont fit or run propoerly.

There's no use in getting a higher speed ram than the pc2700 that's in there because that is the highest the chipset supports. I'm using Kingston 512mb sticks and they're great so far.

If you're unsuccessful in getting asus to send you the badges, I bought some extras. Hence you won't have to pay outrageous shipping for them like some retail places want to charge.

Thanks Kronus,

I haven't heard from asus yet so if you wnt me to take some off your hands just PM me. I think asus is a logshot. Which ones do you have?

Oh, I've been meaning to ask you. Where did you score your lappy for that price, or did you build it yourself. I paid the same for my specs, just a tad inferior (by a ton ). Well I still think I got a good deal, yours is just insane.

HEHE

Well I bought this for my wife since I am still waiting for the TM8103 to be available. She needed one urgently since the one she used for work died last weekeng. But now I don't know if I will let her use it. Sooo exited about getting this baby

And maybe in a couple of months (since I'm not lying to myself anymore) I'll also have a TM8103, now thats a comparison I'm eager to do.

I love the designs and spec on that Asus. The only thing that prevent me from buying it is the 64MB on the video. I want something that will last me the next 2-3 years w/o having to upgrade again eheeh

that acer is perfect on the list.

I am waiting for new Asus design (V6 I believe) hit the stores then I upgrade from my newly ordered Fujitsu

Hi,
Well, it's been awhile since i put it together as a barebones, but here is a link to my thread on it. But the places i got stuff(and links) are on the top of the 3rd page of my thread there.

Here is what is included for that price:
Asus M6BNe 15.4" WXGA barebone ~ M6 DVD/CD-ROM Combodrive ~ ATI Radeon 9700 64MB ~ 1Gig Kingston pc2700 ~ 60gb/7200rpm HDD ~ Arctic Silver 5 ~ 1.7 Dothan ~ 2200 B/G ~ Bag = $1,620

The ext DVD burner I got separately(officemax deal + old enclosure), and the harddrive I got for 60ish from fry's and the enclosure for it from www.zipzoomfly.com

The other stuff in my sig i got separately, but at the time it was the cheapest price around, and i looked for a month to put that together, lol. so the time cost was kinda high, but i learned a lot!

I'm not sure how prices have changed, but the dothan went down a little, the 60 gig drive price has dropped at least $40, and you might find a better deal on notebook memory. I think i paid ~$87ish per stick at circuit city, Check www.fatewallet.com for some good prices on stuff like memory, or www.bargainshare.com.

buy it all from one place. less headache.

Ok,

Little sad but hilarious. I thought my lappy might get here today since it was so close, why:

Last nite: I am in CT, it was in Newark, NJ just 62miles away, an hour and half far

But now that I just tracked it once more, its in Philadelphia, PA WTF, thats 146 miles away

Hey maybe tonight they will pass through san francisco

You guys think I should call UPS?? If this is their regular loistics then no wonder we have to pay so frikin much to ship our stuff.

Guess no earlier than monday, I'll send UPS a map just in case

I was waiting for the V6, but after seeing the comparison on tom's hardware with a w1n (with radeon 9600) i decided on going with a m6ne. Shorter battery life and very minimal performance gains compared to w1n, which means the performance would be very close to a m6ne(9700). And having a shorter battery life than the w1n, which has a shorter life than m6's, puts the v6 at a almost 1hr shorter battery life than a m6. I do like the design and the size factors though. Built in bluetooth would be cool too. i also heard they will cost more than w1's, just couldn't wait it out weighing out all the factors.

I'm finally getting use to the high res screen on my new m6ne. I love this notebook, except is is a bit on the big side, not to thick but very wide. Someone thought it was a 17in before opening it up. And the case is a bit creeky, but hey great design, great keyboard, great performance. Not too bad at all, just kind of debating on whether i should have got a m6bne due to the better resolution for text easier reading text. I just don't like widescreens at all, they seem so pointless. Just have to get used the smaller fonts, love the extra real estate. By the way, congrats on your new m6, hope you enjoy it!!!!!
I agree with you georgewa... very thin, but very wide; I had trouble finding an appropriate backpack for it
Still, a great machine though
I'd heard that the screen quality of the WXGA was considerably better than that of the SXGA+. Is that correct? What is the screen for the SXGA+ like? I've heard somewhat conflicting reports.
The vertical viewing angles are better on the WXGA/WSXGA than on the SXGA+... but then again, vertical viewing angles are always bad on large LCD screens if there isn't some sort of "bright" technology present.
It's not horrible by any means, but it could be better
