i9300 With TVTuner and Windows Media Edition

The chatter of the i9300 has died down in recent days. Whats that about?
I guess with the absence of new information we have speculated it to death.

So on that note:

While reading i9200 reviews around Christmas, I noticed it was mentioned a few times that Dell does not have a Multimedia laptop to compete with the likes of the Toshiba Qosimo G15 and the HP zd8000. A variation of the i9200 (i.e. i9300) would be a great platform for Dell to use to compete in that segment.

So, I am going to go on a limb and say:
I predict that the i9300 will have a TV tuner.

I doubt it. TV laptops are still a niche market. Dell normally goes after established markets.

I would argue that the XPS and its $399 9800 ATI video card was a stretch for Dell into a niche market. That’s more than twice the cost of most Console systems.

A $30-$50 TV Tuner should be nothing to throw on. Except some R&D to make room for it.

You probably know that Wistron makes the 700m. But what you may not know is that they also make a TV tuner module for it. The module is offered in Japan, but for whatever reason, Dell chooses not to offer one to us. The 700m would be perfect as a little portable TV, too.

Dang.....

I just remembered on a thread somewhere, someone posted a jpg which was allegedly the of the back of a i9300. It had 4 usb ports on the back v.s. the two on the i9200. And don’t remember anyone mentioning or noticing a Video IN.

Well, It still would be cool if the i9300 had it.

Maybe, this is a better question:
How many here would opt for a TV Tuner option if available?

I did not know that Dell made a TV tuner module available only in Japan.
But I think this thread speaks for itself so far.

Lack of responses to this thread = Dellphiles don't do TV Tuners.

Oh well, if the i9300 does not get here before my tax return does I guess Ill just have to get an Alienware 7700.

Doh ....
7700 does NOT have a TV Tuner either.
What kind of Cruel World IS THIS?!

i dont know about tv tuners, i have one on my radeon 9800 pro AIW, and i know that i never use it. That may be just because i dont have cable, lol, but i think that i would use one on a laptop even less. But to each his own, though i would say that the gadget geek in me thinks that the more cool stuff you add to a laptop the better (with out adding a ton of weight!).

I don't get it?

And that would be cool, but I doubt it.

Well, to get a chuckle I'll go ahead and ask...

-what's a "t.v. tuner?

-I'm assuming it's so you can plug your co-ax cable in and watch television?
Because many of us with mega-buck laptops don't have a television?

I don't get the appeal.

A TV tuner allows you to turn your $3000 laptop into a $300 TiVo.
1. Pause Live TV.
2. Save TV shows
3. Watch them later off your hard disk when away.

Most laptops today have more power inder the hood than a standard TiVo so why not.

I agree its a gadget geek thing, but would be cool to record a show at night and watch it on the train the next day.

O.k., I hadn't thought about the recording thing. That would be cool. Record the big game and capture the winning goal frame and photo-chop it. (Put yer own face on the player, etc. )

Can any of the external jacks support a tuner as a plug-in accessory?

Gaming laptop is a bigger market than tv laptop. For gamers, there is a huge difference in expectations (graphics, game type, options, etc) from PC and consoles. Hopefully a future version of windows has tv/capture capabilities incorporated into the OS. Supposedly one of the "next big thing" in tv is IP based.

I don't want a TV tuner on my laptop. I have a TV for that. Hotels have TVs. And there's nowhere to plug one in anywhere else.

But hotels charge for porn. I've got an external USB TV capture gizmo. I can stores hours and hours of porn, and then I'm all set for my road trips. And it's a great conversation starter, too. When one of my fellow airline passengers hears all the groaning noises coming from my laptop, they come over and check it out. Most of them end up buying the same setup

That's a good use of the subwoofer for improved bottom end response.

There are several available. I use the ATI USB 2.0 TV Wonder, and it works fine for me. 17-inches was meant for porn.

That would be the making of a legend. Oh wait, that's referring to the screen size - nevermind.
