I was cruising around looking at the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and I saw that Creative Labs has released the Audigy 4 Platinum Pro. Now, the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro seems to have a similar external unit to the Audigy 4 so I was wondering if anyone has had an opportunity to try out the Audigy 4 yet. There's a $50 difference between the Audigy 4 Platinum Pro and the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro and after spending about an hour reading specs on the two I'm at a loss to what the difference is between the two units.

audigy 4 is creative's attempt to break into the sound recording field. previously their cards work like crap for this type of stuff as they're designed for gaming and home use. unless you're going to be doing a lot of recording, i don't feel you'll notice a difference between the audigy 2 zs and the audigy 4, it's up to you though.
one other note i'll make: the audigy 2 zs will use less system resources than the audigy 4 (it'll slow your computer down less). this isn't too significant of a slow down, but it's there.

I agree with xaviar... heck, if you aren't into sound all that much (just gaming and playing music, etc.) then get a lower-end Audigy and add on the LiveDrive (the 5.25" bay device) should you want/need it. They also used to have (if I remember correctly) a "daughter" plate with additional ports that can be added (back plate/port).
