jas, what model of the 1680 series did you get? If it's the 1689WLMI by any chance, try to post some pics if you can. I'm dying to see the screen.

DarkCore , I will sure keep ya updated about my lappy as soon as i get to lay my hands on it .... As such its 1.6 gig Dothan,40gb hdd,512 mb ram, its heritage 15.4" screen,Ati Radeon 9700 64mb onboard, dvd combo ,bluetooth and wifi b/g.Not yet know whether it will be having a 4cell or 8cell battery.... Chose it against Aspire 2012WLMi ( which had banias 1.5 instead of dothan and no bluetooth ) at the same rate .... Did i do the right thing?

Why buy 1680 now when 1690 is releasing soon?

Dear Smilepak , I had only Aspire 2012wlmi to choose from ... 1690 will be a distant dream as of now , as far as India is concerned ...... so what what u think? did i make a better choice out of the two ? ( 2010 vs 1860 ) ....

hey guys, does the 1680 series come with default 4 cell or 8 cell battery? Dont know which one I'll be getting... Lets see...

If anyone has had time to check out the 1680/1690 (they both have a common shell) do you agree that the memory card reader slot looks and feels a bit tacky? Its seems like the pc card slot was originally made to accomdate 2, then they stuck a piece of plastic with a slot for the memory card over the top slot. It wasnt moulded into the shell.

The 1680 should come by default with a 8 cell battery, as here in Asia.

Hi Jas,

also have a few questions for you. Can the optical drive be pulled out and a weight saver be put in place? And is there a cover below the notebook to access the HDD?

thanks!

Got It

Hello again

I got my laptop yesterday. I love it...it was easy set-up, came with all recovery cd's, internet and DVDs run flawlessly. That's really all I've had a chance to do on it so far, then agin that's pretty much all I will ever do besides homework, etc.
The only thing I don't like is the speaker: extemely tinny sounding and not loud at all. But I plugged in some old ones I had laying around and it sounds great. So I think I will be investing in some portable external speakers.
Let me know how you like yours and if you have the same problem with the tinny sound!
Good luck,

Do any of you guys know where I can download the service manual for the 1682wlmi? the machine came with wireless lan, but no bluetooth so would like to order a bluetooth internal card and install it myself. I reckon I need the service manual for that. Has anyone upgraded a 1682 or similar to have bluetooth capability?
any help is appreciated. tks
prazule
