Toshiba 6100 Sat. Pro HDD replacement

Thread Starter
Had a drive return with Media Error (toast) and need a compatible replacment. It originally came with a 30GB drive but was looking at getting something in the 40-60GB size, while still keeping the 5400RPM. Does anybody know of any link or any drives that are compatible with this notebook? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

x.

Have you tried doing a Google search for "laptop HDD replacements"
This is one of many:
Toshiba HDD replacements
Note: I am not recommending this site or any others, It was just an example.
If you search, I am sure you will find possibly cheaper sites.
Also, try some large companies like TigerDirect

Thanks Saugen48.

I am not necessarily looking for where I can purchase the drive, but more so for compatability. I had phoned Toshiba Tech support hoping to get an answer as to what drives are compatible with the 6100 and all the *Help desk could do is recite from the manual... not much help there. I guess what I should have stated is that if all Toshiba notebooks use the same pin grid array/connection format. I can only assume that any other difference(s) than that may come from the limitations of the BIOS, which could be updated/modified.

Thanks,

x.

From what I have seen, most laptop HDs are all pretty much the same sort of configuration as these HDs are used in a variety of brands.
Best to read up on the specifications of the replacement HD and make sure your choice meets those.

any hard drive should work fine. in a 6100, you simply have to take two screws off the old drive sled and put it on the new drive, then insert into your ltop.

any 2.5" hd that is

As spyd3r sad it should work with any HDD. Just take a look on my sig and I guess no coment is nececerry anymore!

The only thing that might be uncompatible is if the HDD is 18 mm or 9 mm thick. In mine goes only the 9 but the two i had before (230CDX, 4200) supported both thicknes.

I think this guy has already forgotten about this thread.

But just in case he does comeback and/or if somebody else looks at this any 2.5" Parallel ATA drive will work in this older laptop. The SATA (or Serial ATA) drives will NOT worrk in it.
