I just noticed in last few hours bids have increased from 18 to 21 and price increased from 711 to 1000. Looks like people not have any problem with wire transfer.

Well, you know... not EVERYBODY trusts PayPal. PayPal once debited $680 from my checking account and then when I reported it, they froze my PayPal account for 7 months while there was $849.56 in there. I will NEVER... *EVER* use PayPal again. Personal checks are just as secure. I sold my 5690 via Personal Check and everything worked out perfectly. Not everyone who refuses to use PayPal is a crook.

Now, if they demand Western Union or something untraceable like that, THEN you may have a cause to worry. That, right there, screams Fraud.

Hey.. I just so happend to specialize in tracking things like this down for a nominal fee! I have a MBA and am working on my doctorate. However, I don't take paypal either. There's a waste disposal bin on the NE side of Central Park. Place $100 in a brown paper bag.. and label it Hank. Drop the bag between 1pm and 1:15pm on 2/12. If you watch, as many as 5 street bums will will approach and dig through the waste bin. One of those will be me in disguise, but it is wise if you don't wait. If I think I'm being watched, I won't get the dropped payment and it's possible that one of the other bums will take the bag and you'll be out $100 (please don't deal with those guys, they are NOT legitimate business men like me).

And finally.. on a more serious note.. if a deal sounds too good.. it probably is.

Personal check is a long process to do the payment or may be you talking about some different mode of personal check which i don't know. Then you will wait for item to be shipped for so much time and whats the guaranty it would be shipped. There are also some factors which can be exlpoited in that. I think paypal is better in one sence that they protects you from fraud. They have bank account information of buyer and seller in case one of them plays a trick.

I think water marking of pictures here should most definetely be considered by those posting pics of their laptops, desktops etc. I think it would at least help cut down on people coming here to steal our pictures of the computers we bought with our heard earned money and using them to rip off trusting, unkowing people online.

That may be what I do next time I do a laptop review. But I feel crappy about doing that.

I've got to say I wonder about the gullibility of otherwise sensible people when spying a bargain. The biggest red flag on eBay is when someone asks you to contact them by a non-eBay email, especially when it is HTML mail like Yahoo and Hotmail. Then there is the fact that his only feedback for selling is a book, which screams Hijacked Account.

Then there are the payment things.

That so many biids have been received (and that someone had to ask if it was a scam) is kind of troubling.

Do a final check. Tell him you will pick up from anywhere in the States (frequent flyer miles).

Cheers

Steve

this was the sellers email to me.. he obviously wants to get his money on the side.

"Hi there!
Thank you for contacting me. Yes it does have a wireless connection. It still has almost 11 months of left warranty. It still has one open memory slot and it does have the keyboard. The laptop I received as a gift and I just used it. I'm selling it because I don't have time for computer games anymore and I received a laptop from my company. It's ready for shipment, packed, all I got to do is to write the address of the buyer on the package. So, don't waste any time and if you're interested make me an offer and maybe we can end this early. Remember that I've written on the auction page that I'll end this anytime if a good offer will be made. Hope to hear from you soon.
Best Regards"

but i will add that the seller answered that question through ebays response system, as well as on the yahoo email listed in the auction... i dont know if that makes any difference.

Beware - Ebay seller sells 8-cell battery for 9860

I went to Ebay and looked for the Sager 9860 laptops, intending to purchase if they are cheap. They are more expensive AND they give a 8-CELL BATTERY . PC Torque gives the 12 Cell battery ; so avoid Ebay. Of course not all Ebay sellers sell with the 8 cell battery but it's the company that post the most listings for Sager 9860 =).

I sent an email last night, asking specifically if the pictures shown were of the actual laptop he has.. he responded this morning... he said that they were actual pictures of his laptop and he has more if i wanted him to send them.

i told him sure.. i want to see if he sends all of the pictures from the review before i bust him...
