Uniwill 259a

Thread Starter
Has anyone tried this model? Where is the best place to purchase this model? Vicious pc has one for 1700 (after a 15% discount) But i have heard less than favourable things about them.

I think alienware has this model also but... Alienware is a bit expensive for me.

So i checked places like www.whitenotebooks.com and found it for about 1900.

Is it better to buy from a reputable company or take my chances with vicious or whitebook

Anyone found it cheaper than 1700?

Looking mainly for:
Pentium m chipset 2.0ghz or higher
1gb ram
256 gfx card
3-5 hours battery life

Uniwill 259a is the only model that combines a good graphics card with centrino technology for longer battery life and portability. (to my knowledge) but by all means if you know of a laptop with similar stats for around the 2,000 mark let me know ^^

There are a bunch of reviews covering this.

Uniwill 259IA is a popular laptop. It host a nice centrino technology, light, thin, and have ATI 9700 w/256MB video RAM. Several places offers it. See sticky for review and location.

As for Alienware offers it, they don't. They offer another Uniwill model, but not the 259IA

Vicious is a relatively small company with good prices and good service. If you read enough vendor feedback here, you will see that there are a LOT of impatient folks with expectations that are unreasonable for nearly all vendors. I got mine when they said I would and their communication with me was above average. I am not telling you to buy from them, but please read the feedback and do the 'reasonable person' test.

Yes, I totally agree with Ling. As far as overall opinion I think Vicious is a great place to to get a nice laptop at a resonable price.

I like my I8600, but when I turn this back in, I'm considering the 259IA. I think it has all the trimmings of a great gaming notebook, and the IntantPlay feature is a big plus.

If you do end up getting the 259IA, please post your thougts.

Also, EKM.com has a good deal on this laptop. Fully loaded (PM 2ghz, 1gig ram, 7K60 hdd, Intel 2200 b/g WiFi and DVD-/+R) this laptop will run you around $1900, shipping included.

They don't have lots of feedback, but like Vicious, there are many happy customers.

I'm looking to to get the Uniwill 223II from them very soon. They use retail CPU's and name brand ram.

I bought some accessories from EKM and was really pleased with them. However, I spent more than I would have at Vicious. If you have a cheap/free source for some the parts, EKM is the only one I found that offers a barebones (still includes an optical drive), but using pricewatch and shopper I still could not beat Vicious price even assembling my own. Mine is a bit beefier than what most people seem to be buying, so if you are buying a slower processor, etc. you may be able to save enough to make it worthwhile. I am pretty please with my 259IA3 although it is the largest laptop/notebook I have EVER owned. My only caveat would be that I have had some difficulty getting the hardware to work under Linux. Particularly the Intel Pro 2200BG mini-pci NIC is not working yet. I have not done much with USB or the card reader. Everything else works OK and I have been able to use accelerated graphics under Linux. Good luck.

I bought a shogun from vicious and i love it. Light, fast, sharp looking, all very cool things to have in my first laptop. It took 2.5 weeks from order date till arrivial but otherwise no problems with Vicious
