Screen resolutions VAIO VGN-A297XP...?

I want to change my screen resolution on my VAIO 17 " widescreen (VGN-A297XP) but I can´t find my desired resolution, 1680x1050 px.

I think this is the ultimate resolution for a project I´m working on...
...is there a way to get to choose this resolution. At the moment I´m restricted to 1280x768, 1600x1200 (doesn´t even cover the screen, black stripes on both sides...*) and 1900x1200 (which is way too high...)

Thanx for any tips...

This is just plain stupid. It´s a waste of screen size if you can´t set it to a resolution that´s in between 1280x768 or 1920x1200...since the optimal resolution for this screen size without a doubt is somewhere in between those two sets... *sigh*

The solution is to buy a screen with a native resolution that you want. Flat panels are made to look good at their native resolution, and often look quite lousy otherwise. Your best bet is to use an external monitor.

Unfortunately you bought the wrong hardware configuration. What you really wanted is the 17" WXGA+ display, not the 17" WUXGA display. LCDs *cannot* support different resolutions the way that CRTs can. The technology is completely different, and the result of trying to reduce the resolution displayed on a LCD (while still using the full screen) will *always* be a significantly degraded picture quality. Things get fuzzy and won't look right.

If you just bought the computer, consider returning it and getting the WXGA+ screen instead. It uses a native resolution of 1440 x 900 which is probably exactly what you're looking for. There will not be a way to get your WUXGA screen to display a lower resolution in a way that is acceptable to you.

For what it's worth you're not the first person who's run into this problem when getting a high resolution LCD for the first time. Unfortunately the burden is on the buyer to make sure a product does what they want. For me, Sony's 17" display is simply the best on the market and I find the 1920x1200 resolution to be perfect for it. But everyone is different.

Trythe WXGA+. You'll be a lot happier.

Thanx PhilipS...
The thing is I´m developing a web app as a temporary project where this VAIO is the main machine...too bad they didn´t bring me into the project earlier since I then surely would have suggested the 1440x900 VAIO...
But this is life.

Thanx again...
Cheers.

May I ask what it is you do not like about the WUXGA display?
