College students....

What is it with you guys talking about cancelling orders if the 8890 doesnt ship by a certain date? You all do realize that you can send and receive postal mail from your university dorm room or apartment correct? Just switch your delivery address to there.

And as far as needing it when you arrive.... What do you guys think their is? Some guy standing at the gate to the university checking to make sure if you have your laptop with you when you arrive? Nope. Heck the entire first week of classes is nothing more than ex-highschool students (yourselves for the most part) enjoying their new found freedom by trying to have sex with everything in sight and drinking waaaaay to much alcohol. You wont get down to any serious work until the 2nd week (for you serious types) or maybe not even until the 2nd semester (for those of you pledging a fratenity or sorrority).

Calm down....its all gonna be okay.

Signed,
Former undergrad and grad student whose been there and done that.

Lol. I definitely don't expect to be doing any work the first week there, as it is orientation week. However, without a computer, I have no internet, no AIM, and no games. That sucks.

go out...socialize, go meet new people.....ermm have sex with him/her/urself, theres more to life than the computer u know

Yeah, no kidding! Besides, the first few weeks are bogus anyway... all the drops and add and what-not.

Im reminded of what Louis Black said last night on the Daily Show...

"There's no statistical evidence that people had more sex during the NY blackout. I know I certianly wasn't having sex. How could I? With no power MY COMPUTER WASN'T WORKING!"

lol, yeah, that was great.

Now, as for the situation, I do plan to go out, socialize and such, but I like to end off the day and waste time surfing my favorite site, talking to my friends (and girlfriend) and playing some games. Is that so wrong?
Yes because you should

a) End off the day in a druken heap - unable to type let alone game
b) End off the day having "relations" with a hot freshette, and not careing about computers
c) End off the day on the next day - whereupon you can start again
d) End off the day arrested and locked up without a computer - Strangely enough this does not ruin your chances of "relations" - they just may be with a HUGE man named BUBBA.

I'm a junor, the first few weeks are not bogus. going through university mail here adds several extra weeks and I've seen teh hands that touch the packages; fragile = THROW AT WALLS HARD. Now its more of a fact that I'm sick of being jerked around, either get the ****ing ship date down..or ****ing set it 3 weeks later so there are no "little problems"

edit: another thing, I don't know what courses you guys are taking but when I work in on the first day of classes the professors say "here's your first assignment, its due in 2 weeks" Gen Ed's were great when I was a freshman and sophmore now its advanced computer architecture and statistics for engineers.

Why don't you throw you frustrations at sager.. although it wont do much good. just for you being so iritable maybe they should just push the ship date back about 3 months..

funny thing is I'd be on my way to Bestbuy right now, but when my hard drive crashed the backups for my emails only went bakc to about a week before I ordered my laptop and thus don't have my order number and THUS can't cancel my order. I'll throw my frustrations at Sager by not buying form them. I was REALLY hoping to help pctorque out for being so great, its not their fault for sager practicing what I believe to be bad business habits. Now if I could get Adam to respond to my email and hopefully figure out my order number I can be done with this unfortunately.

im also in my third ( or is it 4th, 5th...) year of college and am desparate for the machine cause yes class begings mon. but im sure they will only take the time to do good.

on another note, i agree with Uthanos, slightly. if sager 'originally' have said three weeks, and we waited patiently, and it arrived 5 days early, how phat would that be?

Being a CS guy I'm really surprised to hear you get this upset about a 2 day schedule slip. When you get into the real world you'll find that such slips are commonplace...don't want to deal with them? Then don't preorder things. Usually companies start preorders when they are ramping production. If a bug is found you'll probably get the buggy version with a patch to be released later. In this case a bug was found and they are fixing it before sending it out. Regardless of how upset this makes you, it's the right business decision.

LOL if you can get customers and contracts without telling the customer anything that has risk attached to it I'm extremely envious.

business 101.1 know your means and your extremes.

Not that complaining about it is going to do anything, but you really can't blame people for being frustrated. This makes the 2nd delay, and further information that they won't have 500 units to ship like they thought. Only 350 are going out the first 2 days (200 mentioned the first day, likely 150 more the 2nd day).

They aren't even sure if things are going to be shipped monday either.

Personally I'm getting a bit anxious. My money has already been taken (wire-transfer) and now that I look at it I'm probably not going to make it into the first batch.

I'm really looking forward to having this laptop but time is 'awastin. Last week I thought I would have it by now, and I'm guessing next friday I'll be saying the same.

I'm not saying this is PC Torque's fault (the reseller I chose) nor Sager's fault. I'm just saying that we, as consumers, have the right to be frustrated at repeated delays on recieving a product we have already paid for.

i think they might have a supply and demand issue. this 8890 caught on quick and sager wants to meet more of the demands of their customers.

Oh well, you wont be really happy with anything from bestbuy bought on frustration.. and i meant via email, not really by not waiting a few additional days..
You might learn in a few years that the world doesn't revolve around you..

Ok this is my last post on this subject because I don't really have time to teach you about how business in the real world works...you'll find out soon enough anyway.

Sager is predicting a 2 day slip in the schedule because of a problem they discovered at the last minute. Guess what...in the real world stuff happens like that. It's not about knowing your limits, it's about understanding that complex technology brings with it an array of risks. If you want Sager to enumerate the risks of schedule slip and to give you project estimates I suggest you pay them about 10 times what you are. In reality they are doing very well and keeping you informed (they even gave the reason for the slip).
