vaio fs - buzzing noise software solution

hi everyone
just have a question about the buzzing sound software solution, i.e. changing lcd brightness from the graphic card setup. is it also possible in intel integrated video card models? i'm planing to buy a vaio fs-215, a new european model that comes in after fs-115, but have no possibility of checking that bug beforehand. so, any users who encountered that problem, could you please help?
thanks in advance

Hi,

I have the FS115Z (nvidia) and my screen produces the buzzing sound. Tried the software solution but there is one drawback. The software brightness control does not influence the cursor. You are left with a screen that is ok without the buzzing sound, but the cursor is too bright.
But now comes the good part! I contacted Sony (the Netherlands) about the buzzing issue. They confirmed the problem and told me they were already working on a solution. Today I received an email from Sony... The solution is not there yet, but the problem will be solved May 31 at the latest!

Yes,

I am getting the flickering also. I'm not sure if the PC is as brigh now as when I first bought it (feb). Is there a way to fix this?

ADDITIONALLY, there seems to be a fundamental flaw with the screen - on anything but max brightness the screen seems to flicker at times, usually after about an hour of operation. The flickering (more like pulsating horizontal lines) are most visible on dark blue, dark grey, dark green etc backgrounds.

Completely unworkable.

Anybody else have this problem??

I don't have the flicker problem luckily. I love this screen!

My screen doesn't flicker

I have an FS660/W and my screen does not flicker or buzz. I think they must have fixed it. I bought it two days ago. I am hoping that it doesn't start. Did it start right away for those of you whom experienced it?

And I thought I was the only one who had that happen to! I didn't even realize at the time it came off, so I know it wasn't something I did in aggression or something. Just looked up and was like "huh what happened here" oh well, and mine was the right side too. When I want to put it in hibernate i just use one of my shortcut buttons and press that, then close the lid. I will probably get this clip replaced, when there is about 1 week left on my 1 year warranty, haha.

Hi,

I bought the european equivalent few weeks ago: FS215. I since then followed this thread with interest. I should have probably read it before buying that laptop!

However I am still very happy with it and agree with all the cons mensioned previously.

Someone mentioned a software solution for the buzzing problem, could you please tell me where I can find it? even a beta version?

Cheers,
B.

Forgot to also ask:

I am looking to upgrade my memory but the price quoted by a nearby Sony Center is so expensive!
Therefore I have 2 questions:
- Can I buy any DDR 2700 ram for laptop and use it in that VAIO laptop?
- Can I buy DDR2 ram? I know the FS doesn't come with DDR2 but could it handle this type of ram?

B.

It can't handle DDR2 memory, but it will use any PC2700 ram you put in it.

Thanks for the info.
It can apparently also hanled more than 1gig of ram. Although the tecnical specs says it can't take more.

Currently replaced one of the 256 Meg by a 1Gig meg... Have a total of 1256 Meg and the Laptop works fine

Any chance someone knows where to find the software solution to remove the buzzing noise when reducing the brightness of the screen? Or do I need to send my laptop back to support?

Cheers,
Bugs.

The software solution involved keeping the physical brightness all the way up and just turning down contrast or something with software... not really a fix. The real problem has to do with the inverter.
So that means I need to send it back?
Can they actually fix the problem?
Cheers,
Bugs.

I don't know, they replaced mine, but it's the same as before... mine doesn't buzz much at all though. Like I can hear it if its otherwise quiet but its probably not the same problem others are having.

Hi guys, i'm new to all of this. I own Sony Vaio VGN-FS550. I was following most your instructions on reformating hard for clean install. I had copy my back up (recovery cd). Then proceeded. When everything was completed, the cd at which i copied to, failed. Now i don't have a copy of my back up files. Is there anyway i can get a copy? Can anyone help me.

wow, that sucks dude, I think there will be someone in here willing to send you a copy soon. Try to PM some of those who owns a FS to see how things go.
