1300 euro = 1500 $ for the msi645

price estimate from

depends if MSI atchally relese it - theyve shown new MEGA barebones before once, and now only 1 of the 3 new planned are being released. Anyway the x700 is shipped underclocked as with most of the ATI mobility cards

Yeah.. Sometimes multitasking is not a good idea.
Still: Laptops are tremendously overpriced in Europe.

No shit they are overpriced in Europe.
An Acer TM8104 costs nearly 3300 $ in sweden.

Tell me about it. I was looking for an Acer Ferrari 3400, just to compare prices, and it turns out that it's so much cheaper in the US that the actual price tag is smaller than the one around here. About 1900$ to 2200E.
The crown to all this goes to Apple though. You know the Apple iPod Shuffle they introduced earlier this year? 1GB comes in for 150$ OR 150E here. What the ****?

Aaaargh, i dont know what the h*ll to do...

Well, like ollie3 said drivers make a big difference. The results are real close... too close imo to base a buying decision on just a few fps lol. You have to consider all of the other features. Odds are you'll never be able to tell the difference when playing a game it mostly boils down to bragging rights. The MSI is WXGA if you don't mind that, personally I want more screen real estate. With all the new Sonoma's being released you're already way better off the you were just 1 year ago.

Six of one, half dozen of the other. Both cards are comparable in terms of performance. The key is the power consumption numbers for laptop GPU's,and both tend to burn more juice than the CPU.

For benchmarks, there is only ONE important number: MINIMUM FPS!

If a GPU does 300fps in some game but has low points of 10fps compared to a GPU that does 75fps with a minimum of 35fps, the second one is better. I don't want the average fps, I want to know the slowest fps so I can tell just how badly a card will bite when the game really gets busy.

what a silly thread

completely agree. I wish more review sites posted minimum fps like hardocp. For me, minimum fps and average fps are the most important (in that order).

Then again, if it only tanks to 10fps at level load for 1second, but remains 60fps otherwise, while the other one slugs constantly around at 20fps, it's not really a matter of choice.

IMHO, the best indicator would be average combined with variance

Wow, that so isn't kickin' ass. I've run tests right after another and gotten different scores, so these don't sway me. As was said before, power use and minimum fps along with less problems is what I'm after. I really could care less if it turns out to be ati or nvidia in my laptop.

From those numbers, I see maybe a 5% difference for the BM's and 10% for HL2. The Doom 3 numbers I don't care for since I sold my copy.

Do BM's really matter that much to you?

Before, I was planning to get Acer Travelmate 8103 for all the specs that it provided. But after waiting so long for the stock, I started browing again and came across Toshiba M40. Basically it had the same specs, but with TruBrite . I took much pondering and decided to head for the Toshiba. Reason being, Toshiba may not have DDR2 ram or DVI or Gigabit Ethernet, but ram and hdd I can always upgrade as long as the chipset is 915. Also, DVI and Gigabit isn't a big thing to me, I heard the average students rarely uses gigabit. I think most important are the components that can't be upgraded, that is the LCD and the chipsets. I heard the TruBrite is a big difference to the other LCD. So I think I'm going for Toshiba I don't care which graphics card kicks which ones ass, as long they're comparable, that's good enough

Yeah, I don't think it's fair to say the 6600go owns the x700. Not yet at least. Personally, I'm getting sick of people using Doom3 as a comparison between ATI and nVidia cards. Go ahead and stick the benchmarks in the individual reviews but don't try and use it to compare the two cards...
