M35x - DVD/CDR drive screwed up.

I just bought a M35X..mostly to play DVD movies and do some internet surfing, while on the road. Right out of the box, It can't play DVDs...well, it will play some...but not others. It won't read a DVD data disc. It starts to play some movies and shutsdown or locks up. I tried putting in PowerDVD5 instead of the factory software...tried uninstalling anything I thought might be conflicting. Nothing. Did I just get a bad drive?....and if so, can I replace it myself without killing the laptop?

Sounds like you should be marching it back to where you got it.

Well....I got it at an E-bay online store and I have to deal with the manufacturer for problems. I called customer support, and they went over a few things....and now are sending me to an authorized service shop to see if the drive is defective...which the guy suspects it is. Either way...its been a pain in the rear.
