I read on alot of other forums that the 15" Powerbook f.x. only gets about 2 hours and max 3 hours.

noesis,
i have an iBook. a 12". it's white. i'm not a pussy. i have plenty of self-respect. i've also been trained by the U.S. Army to do horrible things to the human body by hand or by weapon, and perhaps i have given these times. i piss regularly of my own volition. perhaps i'm a walking dichotomy like your friend. get used to it, and while you're at it, get over yourself eh? hmm, guess that theory of yours just went out the window. but at least now i'm starting to think of new uses for my iBook...

Jerbead,
if u have the money go for the PB. the new hard drive upgrades and drops in price have made it a better deal than it was. given what u stated originally the iBook likely would meet your needs. it is very solid and can multitask like many windows machines can only dream of. (check anandtech's review of the mini. he speaks a bit about how os x is uncannily able to multitask under load). however if u r looking for something between a DTR and something that offers mobility the 15" is a solid choice. given the screen size and real estate that u get, it's less likely that u would feel the need to use an external monitor (personally i can be on my 12" iBook for hours working on documents, email, surfing, and so on, but if i'm working in photoshop or video editing and need my nose pressed up against the screen i plug into my 19" monitor). as such, it's a good machine for "desktopping" on a stand like the iCurve, or other stand, w/ a mouse and keyboard for long term work. and needless to say if u buy off the "top shelf" your investment will be a bit more future-proof than the economy models. personally, i'm going to sacrifice my iBook on the altar of progress at ebay if a G5 notebook comes out this year. don't think i won't! 7200rpm HD an all! ok, well maybe i'll pull the drive...but only if the new 120GB drives haven't hit 7200 rpm by then.

If you can afford it, go with the Powerbook. I bought the 12" ibook a couple of weeks ago to dip my feet into OSX, I liked it a lot but wanted something more powerfull so I returned it and went with the 15" powerbook. The viewing angles on the 15" are so much better than the ibook. The powerbook is quicker, has better build quality, and looks nicer. The only downside is that the battery life is shorter and the powerbook gets much warmer when doing process intensive stuff, especially when its charging.
