ZD8000 questions

Hi folks.

I have few questions about zd8000. If you could help me out with them it'd be great.

1. I went to HP site to customize zd8000 a few times for the last few days but I can't get the 1gig of RAM anymore whereas I could about a couple of weeks ago. Now the options for the system memory are 256 MB, 512MB, or 2Gig. Anyone knows what happned to the 1gig option?

2. What's the good extended service plan for the notebook? I would go with 2-year HP Express Repair extended service plan($99.99). Is 3 year option($179.99) better plan? It almost double the price of 2 year plan.

Thanks for any comment.

1. I have the same question about the RAM. Should I buy 2x512 of RAM myself and insert it? It is on sale at most stores now.
2. Is accidental damage a rip-off?
3. Did anyone buy an HP zd8000 with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 operating system? I would like to ask if the dual tuner is included with the system or if you have to buy it separately. I didn't see a choice to do so when buying the unit so does HP include it with the cost of the XP Media Center Edition?

Once they get RAM back instock I'm sure the option will return. If buy RAM yourself, insure you get the correct type for your laptop.

Mary, both the Tuner and the MCE XP are separate to my knowledge.

I have MCE2005. Tuner and remote are included. The remote is different than the credit card sized remote that is optional.

Can anyone comment about the warranty question in the original thread? About the issues regarding extended warranty or Accidental damage. Is getting 2 year or even 3 year of of one the services worth the money?

I'd appreciate any comment. Thanks

I took the 1 year express with Accidental Damage. This is one of the things that attracted me to the HP as I'm in Florida, and most of the other manufacturers wouldn't offer damage protection in NY and FL.

Plus, the extended warranties are going to be a preference as you want to think about how long you plan to keep your laptop. I know that my current laptop (Gateway M675) had a 1 year warranty and I could only upgrade it to a 3 year. So, with that in mind, I decided it was time to get another laptop. I'm glad I only had a one year as I wanted a new notebook (DTR) anyways.

Let us know what you decide.
