Hi, my gateway 200 ARC makes a noise every time it shuts down, just after the screen turns off. It sounds something like a sound effect for a ray gun from a cheap science fiction movie. If I were to guess, it might be the hard drive? Anyway, I'm asking because in addition to making this noise every time that it shuts down, it has been starting to make the same noise during normal operations. I'll just be typing along, and it will make the noise. Sometimes it will freeze up on the first noise, but I've never heard it make more than three before it freezes up. By freezes up, I mean that no input effects it; no ctrl-alt-del, no mouse, just hold the power button to reset. Sometimes it happens after an hour of use, sometimes it happens before the gateway splash screen is gone at startup, and everything in between. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am hoping that I may be able to just tighten some connection and not have to send it off and see what I get back. I should also add that I think it is not the cd drive, because it will still make the noise even with the drawer open, and that this computer has no floppy drive.
