this was an ambitious undertaking, sorry it did not work out. I or someone else should have warned I guess that this type of technical problem holdup delaying start time for LAN gaming, much less WAN gaming, with strangers, much less friends that have done it dozens of times before, is really the norm. It is sad that it appears that the hurdles were not overcome, so that it was not just delayed, it was stymied. Whenever you are planning to participate in a LAN or WAN game, never expect it to start on time, and do expect multiple players to have technical issues that delay things. My friends and I do LAN gaming all the time. This past Friday we had one scheduled for 6:30 pm. No one arrived until 8:30, and we didn't start gaming until 9:30, because it took a full hour to get everyone set up correctly. My suggestion for future Sagerite gaming event is do it through a website that is already set up to host such games. For example, I play Age of Mythology and Ensemble Studios Online has a website for that game where you can put up to 12 people in the same game. However, you need good connection speed and good comps or it gets laggy with more than 6 people. I will do a separate post to see if anyone is interested in doing that one as a Sagerite event. Downside is you must buy the game to play AOM online. The free demo wont get you playing online I don't think. Anyway, there a multiple games at Microsoft's gaming Zone including the predecessor to AOM, Age of Kings, so pick any game the Zone supports and once again, getting a game full of Sagerites together becomes easy.

This is a very fun idea to have people from this forum all play in a game together. Hopefully the idea doesn't die because of one failed attempt. like I said I'll do a separate post trying to set up a less technically difficult game.

Hehe, I totally agree w/ the delayed starting times. At one of the first LAN parties I attended, we scheduled to start at 8:00pm, most of the guys didn't arrive until 9:00pm, but we didn't get our first Warcraft III game going until midnight. LOL

What with figuring out how to connect switches together using uplink ports and reconfiguring two routers and 10 computers for static IPs , dealing with conflicting wireless keyboards and mice, and one comp that just get quitting in the first 30 seconds of a game, it was a ~great~ learning experience, one that I will be happy to never go through again. :P

Getting Sagerites together for gaming was and still is a great idea. Good to hear that there are others who are still just as enthusiastic about the idea.

Perhaps we can add Warcraft III to the list of possible games for a future Sagerite gaming event? Battlenet makes things easy!

I can get counterstrike from my friend if we go with that. I will note on the separate post that Counterstrike has also been suggested. I am going to ask people to list all the games they would be willing to play, along with their favorite, to give me a better idea of what will work, especially if everyone is suggesting a different game.
