Area 51m-7700 First Impressions & Reason for Return - Page 2

Ouch - as has been said earlier, tough crowd. I'm sure I'll love my new AW 7500, and if I don't, I'd be afraid to post the news here

Just thought I'd add that this post did help me in my final decision time last week - I was originally drawn to the AW site because of the 7700 lappy. Even though I clearly knew it was a mobile desktop, I thought it would work for me because of space constraints. But, after reading reviews and getting some helpful comments here from a question on the weight and size - decided I would be better off with a desktop. I guess this supports the theory that a little research can help set expectations...

Well, no excuse for bad manners guys. Shame you had to return the machine Mike, but if you didn't like it then no sense in keeping it. I'll not be rude here, however, (LOL) I can't see how one can complain about how heavy something is when the website actually TELLS you it's weight?

That's like saying to the car dealer, "I'd like my new car to be blue please."
Then, when you pick it up saying, "Shit man, it's a blue car!"

As for the fans running... you use Seti and expect the thing to be quiet? Come on Dude, give AW a break.

All in all I don't see too many problems here but am surprised by some of your gripes seeing as you appear to have some knowledge of PCs looking at your website (it's nice by the way ).

No offence intended here so hope none was taken.

No offense but its a dumb post MikeAWood. The 7700 is a fantastic machine, you should have done the research and realized it wasn't for you. The thing is awesome and is a VERY mobile desktop. You sound like you wanted a real "Laptop" and not a Mobile Desktop. Some of the things you had to say negative about the 7700 make no sense. Whatever floats your boat, good luck...

Mike, thanks for your findings, which I know you meant to be helpful. However, the AW website is very clear that the 7700 is a desktop replacement - it's going to be heavy, it's going to be a power hog and probably not right for someone looking for a mobile laptop to dash off a few e-mails. Sorry it didn't work out for you - more research would be in order before spending your company's money. One last thing - I think the hostility being directed to your post is because you made an apparently unwise decision and you seem to want to blame the computer.

Everything AW has to offer on 7700 is fine with me even the weight (I do carry it around and take it as an exercise^_^) but except the paint. I am quite sure that neither AW or any other company of any kind will address such kind of problem to potential customers. That just make them think of the worse part and blow them away because they don't know how bad it can be in reality. But I hate that too when the case got messed up in just 3 days (AW you are NOT a good lier!! LOL).

Can you feel his heat? FEEL THE HEAT, PEOPLE. FEEL HIS HEAT.

I feel bad for Mike. I don't think he was malicious in his review. Simply an evaluation of his experience. You guys shouldn't be breaking his balls so much.

And really, in spite of measurements on a website, I'm sure anyone who buys a machine online without seeing it in person is at least a bit surprised. I mean i can read measurements like anyone else, but when I saw my Area 51 for the first time, I was like, whoa, that IS big. And this is even after seeing pics from user's computers and so on.

Anyways, thanks to Mike for providing an unfavarable review without making it sound like a whine-fest.

Re

Hey Mike the response to your post shows how defensive some AW owners are. The bottom line is if you aren't happy with your purchase then send it back and chalk it up for experience.

I don't think its about some AW owners being defensive. I think its common knowledge what kind of lappy your getting into and when you whine about how much you don't like it, why did you buy it in the first place? You would have to be just dumb not to know what you bought, I'm sorry. I think that's why some NBF peeps sounded off, stupidity angers people, only natural you would get this kind of response to this kind of post.

If I go Bungie jumping I know full well there is a risk that the cable could snap, it comes with the territory. I think MikeAWood new full well the 7700 was no lightweight and had some cons to go with the pros. Some of the complaints mentioned in his post were ridiculous I feel, just my opinion, but I totally disagree with him on some of his statements. Thankfully those of us in the greatest country in the world have the right to agree to disagree.

I am going to have to agree with "Code". What he didn't do was research, and if he did, he didn't do a good job. With every purchase out there, there has to be some kind of form of research.

When I got my AW I was like WOW this sucker is big, but with all the research, I knew what I was getting into, plus I needed a mobile desktop. But n e way Mike thought he was geting a bunny but after he got the Rhino, he complained and whined to us, even though the website said he was getting a Rhino and we all said he was getting a Rhino.
