Wide Screen Gaming LCD's - Page 2

And commish...

Go to CompUSA and look at the Apple 23" screen...it makes the 2001fp (that I own too) look like a monocrome screen from a cash register.

Seriously, there is no comparison bro.

Apple 30" Cinema <> PC display
The new Dell monitor will ship with Duke Nukem Forever
post #27 of 54
The new 24" Dell will be out on March 1st and retails for $1199 I believe. That's a smokin' deal for a monitor that size, and with Dell's history of insane coupon deals, you should be able to score one under a grand easily. That's definitely the route I'm going.

Hey DB, how is that 23" widescreen Sony you got doing with games in SLI mode? I was under the impression that SLI didn't work too well with widescreen resolutions. I saw the picture you posted of Half-Life 2, and it looked like there was a big green line across the screen.
That green line is an option in the drivers so you can see the load balancing. The monitor is beautiful. I have been playing CSS on it and it looks great when I get my ass whooped (every round for some reason). I think Craig's arse (in CSS) looks especially delightful.

I think the Apple looks better
The Apple will undoubtedly be better than the Dell, but with promotions, the Dell will probably cost under $1,000. The Apple is $1799 after a recent price drop. For those of us with less disposable income, the Dell will be a good choice.

Has anyone tried the widescreen LCD's in SLI mode?

Yes, I have run both of mine in SLI mode. The Apple ONLY runs well in its native resolution of 1900 by 1200. The Sony runs well in many resolutions. I have found working with multiple monitors and SLI tricky as the drivers don't really work well for turning one monitor off. Windowz keeps telling me my monitor is connected to the secondary card and the SLI checkbox stays unchecked. I unhook a monitor, reboot, then I can enable SLI. This is probably just immature SLI drivers or maybe I need to be schooled on what ports to connect to.

I have had the APPLE 23 Inch new widscreen connected to my DELL IXPS for the past 4-5 months and I absolutley LOVE IT!!! Ofcourse, it is kind of a waste that I never use my WUXGA that came with my laptop but I will on travel.
I plan on buying either the GEN 4 XPS desktop or an Alienware 5550 desktop sometime over the next few months to connect to my APPLE 23 but am waiting for the right deal and would love that price to drop a tad on the new Intel EE 3.73GHZ 1066FSB processor

I don't think the 5500 comes in SLI homero.
