you're right, they must've changed the production line from WXGA to WSXGA before they shipped any. Because no one has ever received a WXGA, even in early january.
Then they changed all their literature and brochures, because they weren't sure of what they wanted to do when they first produced the laptop.
Then they shipped a bunch of WXGA screens just to a few online retailers like Newegg, they thought it would be amusing to confuse everyone with the stats on acer.com.

The reason the other retailers got it wrong is because they use NewEgg's site for specs, and NewEgg is well known for these kinds of typos.
