Just received my Dell 24" panel. Ordered on the 3/1 and took free shipping(3-5 day) and there it was on my doorstep at lunch. These must be built or stocked in Austin(where I am) because that was just too quick. Haven't even received tracking number at online order status. Gotta get back to work but I can take some pics tonight but I have no way to post them unless someone wants to do it for me. PM me your email or something if you want me to send them to you.

Mine still says in transit when I tried tracking it.

Ok, need some help/advice. Got the Dell 24" hooked up last night via d-sub. Works fine and no dead pixels(Yeah!) Set resolution to 1920x1200, text not small enought to bother me. So once I knew it was working, I then hooked it up via DVI and could not get it to display. My desktop graphics card is a couple year old Radeon 9700pro. This is my first flat panel and thus first use with DVI but I know this is the optimal connection since it's a digital panel and figured it would look its best that way. So what do I need to troubleshoot? Do these older cards not offer a fully compliant DVI signal? The 1920x1200 resolution is supported, at least with VGA and worked fine. And I know I was on the proper input etc..and I did not have both VGA and DVI hooked up at the same time. So what do you think?....do I need to look at a more current video card?...... or do I need to change/check some settings in the ATI control panel?

Is there a button to swap between VGA & DVI on the panel?

Also try connecting the DVI when the PC is off then rebooting.

There is an input button that cycles through d-sub>DVI>s-vid>composite>component and I was on the proper DVI input(#2). However, I did switch connectors with the PC powered on. I just turned off the monitor, unplugged it and swapped VGA for DVI. Was this my mistake?

I don't know if it was a mistake or not, I am running VGA not DVI but in an effort to try and help you, I am just suggesting possible solutions I would personally try if I was in your position.

Hope you get sorted soon

Yes, both the card and the monitor should be able to detect each other during boot.

So, how does yours look as far as brightness, lighting consistency, leakage, dead pixels, etc?

k, I'll try to reconnect DVI with everything powered off, but the 9700pro should be fine right? Very bright. VGA default contrast and brightness were both 50% and I turned both down, it's a light cannon. Lighting seemed very uniform across the panel. Color not as good as CRT to me but I haven't done any color tweaking yet. Zero dead pixels. Explain leakage to me?...this is my first flat panel.

By the way on a panel of that size text is def. not a problem at 1920x1200. I have the XPSgen2 on order as well and I expect it to a little more of an eye strain on a 17"

If you look at the panel with a black background, leakage would show up as lighter areas around the edges or as a generally washed-out looking black.

Sounds like a nice panel. I think I might have to get one.

And the 9700 pro should be fine for pushing pixels to that thing. At least, the MR9700 seems to work fine for my WUXGA LCD.

Another point, the panel locked into the base feels very solid and is very easy to tilt and rotate, has a very smooth feel to it. Most connections are on the bottom. Attach panel to base and adjust base to highest position, then rotate the panel clockwise, now all the connections are on the left for easy connection, then rotate back for use.

Tried again at lunch to get the DVI working and no go. I powered down the puter and hooked everything up and rebooted and still nothing. I then tried taking down the resolution first and then reboot and nothing. I looked through all of the tabs in the ATI control panel and display properties and couldn't find anything obvious that I should check/change. Anyone have any other ideas? I guess I can get the latest catalyst drivers and try those.

Dock, here are pics I took of my 2005fpw for light leakage explanation to customer care.

First of all, on the monitor do you need to change to a different input? Such as, is VGA input 1 and DVI input 2? I'm not sure, just asking the question.

Secondly, you could leave BOTH cables connected. Then unplug the VGA after you boot into the desktop. There was a very long running bug with 9700 Desktop Video Drivers that blanks out on some digital displays. To the very best of my knowledge this bug NEVER affected the laptop 9700 as, even though it retained the same part number, it was not the same chip.

See this master thread to get you started: 9700 Desktop Chip & Digital Panel problems

For me, when I was experiencing the 9700/LCD issue, I left both VGA and DVI plugged in. The VGA cable got me onto the desktop where the DVI cable automatically took over.

The easiest solution is to download the newest ATi Catalyst drivers from the front page of the ATI website.

ATI

See the bottom left. I personally prefer the control panel as I have more control - the Catalyst Control Center is "control panel for dummies"

Human> thanks for the pics. No leakage like that at all.

Heinrich> thanks for the advice but nothing has still worked. Yes on the 2405 you have to cycle through the input button for d-sub, dvi, s-vid, composite and component. Tried the 5.1 and 5.2 drivers from ATI but didn't fix the DVI problem. Also tried hooking up both and rebooting....DVI still would not kick in. I'm going to go read in the thread you posted now. May just run out and pick up a cheapie ATI X300 and see if that works just to know that it's a graphics card problem and not the new monitor.

Follow up. Okay Heinrich I got DVI to work. In the ATI control panel I had to make sure that "alternate DVI mode" and "reduce DVI frequency" were both unchecked and DVI would work. I would then also reboot with only the DVI cable hooked up though the screen would be completely blank until the windows logon screen.

Now my new problem. With DVI working, the text looks horrible. I'm at the nativce resolution(1920x1200) and text size is 96dpi. The text is chopped up like hell. Almost looks like when the printer is running out of ink or something. Again, this is my first flat panel running digitally. What do I do here?
