Disassemble Satellite A75

Thread Starter
Hello everyone!

I currently own a Toshiba Satellite A75-S206 laptop. Unfortunately, the laptop will shut down during mid-operation of any task (i.e. booting up, open firefox, visual studio .net, etc.)

I'm almost positive that the culprit is overheating. I've taken several cans of compressed air to the fans underneath the laptop and to the semi-opened access panel on the back. I can see quite a bit of dust come out. Well, I've repeated this process quite a few times and it is getting tiresome.

Therefore, I would like to take the laptop apart and give it a good cleaning. So far I've remove all 20-plus screws on the bottom but the case only comes out partial (it's still attached to the cd navigation buttons). I'm sure I need to remove the keyboard as well but don't know how.

So my question, does anyone have any experience taken the Satellite A75 series apart? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you ruled out the static issue that is currently discussed here?

Can't open mine either

Can anyone please tell me what is hanging up after all the screws are removed?

screws removed from base, flip it over, remove keyboard bezel, remove keyboard, slide out cd-rom, remove lcd, remove top cover, remove some screws holding down motherboard, take it out flip it over and theres the heatsink. Remove heatsink, clean, remove thermal paste, apply fresh thermal paste and spread evenly, and then reassemble notebook.
If you don't know what you are doing, take it to Toshiba service centre to get done for a fee. At least they shouldn't break anything like you might.

Thank you toshrepairer. I believe my power jack has come loose from the motherboard and needs resoldering. I have found a place where I can send the motherboard in and get it fixed. I have to artfully arrange the DC adaptor plug to get the laptop to run on power. Right now it only connects if I barely put it in at a slight angle. Should be under warranty but the purchase slip is lost. Yes I am screwed.

my Toshiba m35x-s149 has/had the same problem. I just recieved it for the third time from Toshiba factory in Kentucky and it is still doing the same thing. I've had the laptop for about 8 months and the factory has had it for over three months out of the 8. Looks like they have me over a barrel. I hate giving them more money for an extended warranty but have no choice.

Getting in was NOT EASY

We spent about 4 hours trying to crack the code of how to disassemble the A75 to get to the power jack. After it all, we managed to get in only enough to solder the tiny point on the connector that looked bare. There is a narrow strip across the back of the keyboard, under the hinge that is fixed with snaps. From there we got the keyboard looser. We had taken a couple of dozen screws out of the case, removed the hard drive to get to the DVD slot. In the end we never found what was hanging up on the front of the keyboard surround. It would not come apart near the 3 small LED lights. We never removed the screen, but loosened it. After popping up the main part of the bezel all around the outside edge, we had to keep it separated with cardboard strips or it would snap back. We then had enough leeway to prop the back corner up and peek at the power connector and saw the missing solder point. That done, we faced the daunting task of restoring everything, but when done the DC adaptor worked like a charm. This is NOT a matter of merely removing a few screws to get to the problem and I would still like to know how to dislodge the keyboard bezel in the center front. With hindsight, it was satisfying to correct this nagging power problem and I will treat it like glass from now on.

I gave it some serious thought. Your answer was helpful and persuaded us to at least give it a try. A 5 page description complete with photos would have been much appreciated, however. I am going to look for a repair/service manual for this puppy. Having one might insure I'll never have to go in again.

So do you know what the hangup at the latch/ 3 led lights spot is? It was the only thing that kept us from removing the top completely.
