External Speakers and 4750

Hey guys, I have an external speaker system from my old PC, they are new Logitech 5.1 speakers. Meaning they have three plus that need to be used in order for the sound to come out. How do I hook this up to my 4750? There is one plug for front L/R and 1 for rear L/R and another for the Sub/Center, any idea how this works? I tried plugging them in but could only get sound OUT of the headphone jack. Thanks.

check your sound effect... that's the AC 97 control icon near the clock... looks like a radio tower... select the speaker output and it should be 6 speaker out (5.1) and those 3 jacks in front of the 4750 would correspond to your plugs just do the speaker test to get the right combination. good luck

In my Sound Manager I only have these tabs:

Sound Effect
Equalizer
S/PDIF-Out
HRTF Demo
Microphone Effect
General

Any ideas? No speaker setup in any of those, even if I set it in windows xp setup it doesn't matter, all I hear is fuzziness in some of the speakers, even doing the HRTF demo only plays sound out of the front two speakers. HELP!!!!

We lose that tab when we install the 'uncustomized' drivers from realtek. In order to get that tab back you can:

1: replace the alsndmgr.cpl file in %systemroot%/sytsem32 from the original audio drivers provided with your unit
2: Get everyone together to petition clevo/eurocom/sager to make an updated realtek driver set based on latest 3.69.

Replaced the file, still no speaker option. Anywhere I can get this file somewhere else? I copied it from the CD and don't see any change.

Thanks.

Correction, went to Eurocom and used the d470k alsndmgr.cpl file. But now my sub and my rear speakers do not work? Only the front left center and right work in speaker test? That normal?

Another note, there is some sound now, but it's incredibly fuzzy sounding, even with movies now?

I think it depends on what exactly you are playing the sounds from and how they were recorded. On some things I only see 2 speakers showing activity, and on others I see all 4 and the subwoofer showing activity. This is when I had used some newer drivers I had found on the net for the REALTEK VIA 97 audio drivers.

I, however, kept having problems with sounds and video playing wayyy too fast sounding like the chipmunks almost, etc. so instead I updated the drivers from the control manager, and used the Driver CD that came with my Sager-4750 to fix it back as it was originally, but now the VIA DECK doesn't show the speakers anymore. So I can no longer click them to test them. I'm about to try installing the newer deck again, as maybe something became corrupted last time.

I hear there is a supposed fix where you can put it from digital to analog and it works fine, but I prefer not to do that.

Well it'd be interested in hearing about the fix. It's really annoying, all I hear in my rear speakers is fuzzy noise, that's it. It's awful.

Ok side note, ive tried multiple attempts to configure my notebook to play speakers utilizing 5.1 in gaming. And i still hear distortion in my rear speakers, it's awful, they are in the correct ports, and the correct setups are made in the sound manager, even have 5.1 selected in windows and sound manager, turned off unnecessary sounds in sound manager. So whats the deal?

Are these configuration options a joke, I seriously am not able to get true 5.1 surround sound like I did before on my PC, so why do I hear distortion in my rear speakers? This is simply unbelievable after spending this money that no one has a viable solution.

ALSO: When I turn the micorphone on in games like Counter Strike, and use the testing ability, all I hear is garbled mess, constant garbled mess even with no one speaking during the test. So even when I'm in game no one can hear me unless I literally start screaming into the mic very very close. However in other programs like AIM, I can sit back and talk and be heard fine????

I just bought surround sound speakers and also have terrible sound from the rear speakers, but haven't had time to try to fix it as I've been busy with another problem (Workstation service gets stuck in STARTING stage for like 2 minutes while loading, makes windows boot slowly)

As I'm just about to give up on this workstation thing, I'll start working on this speaker problem soon.

You're not alone with the problem. Does anyone have a successful surround-sound output setup with their 4750? My first conclusion was just that the outputs from the 4750 are kindof crappy for surround sound.

---

Ok, after playing with it for about 2 minutes:

If I just have Front and Center speakers connected, everything sounds fine (But no rear sound)

As soon as I plug in Rear speakers, headphones start making a buzzing sound, no real sounds come from the rear speakers. Everything sounds terrible because of the buzzing. Unplugging the rear speaker everything is fine.

It seems like there is something wrong with the 4750's Rear Speaker Out...
Still trying to fix my Workstation problem, so can't spend a great deal of time with this.

----

Plugging in the rear speaker, instead of hearing sounds, I hear a high pitched tone every once in a while, and I can clearly hear the computer fan through the speakers. Everything wo rks great except the rear speakers. Could another port be interefering with it?

Look at this. I have to go to work, but when I get back I'm calling Sager

---

Looking over the sales information for the 4750, I don't see anywhere where they actually claim to be able to output 5.1 sound through the 3 jacks... it was only in the Soundmanager software that I saw you could output the 6 channels through the jacks... If I had never seen that program, I nevre would have bought these headphones :-/

Ok, upon further thought, I realized this:
You're supposed to change Headphone out to Front Speakers, Mic In to Center, and Line In to Rear speakers. Simple enough, except: There is no line in on this laptop. That 3rd port is SPDIF out. So at first I thought that they had me there, because they never say that the laptop has a Line In, and it was my fault for assuming it could output 5.1 just from an option in some software.

I did manage to find a reseller that advertised it as being able to output surround sound, but it wasn't the reseller I bought mine from, and it wasn't Sager, so I didn't have a case. However, I found this on the Sager website: (http://www.sagernotebook.com/ftp/catalog/4750.pdf)

Audio System
Built-in 3D Sound System
6ch analog output
S/PDIF Digital output(5.1 CH) for DVD content
1 Built-in Microphone
5 Built-in Speakers & 1 Subwoofer supporting
5.1 Surrounding sound effect

On Sager's own website they say it supports ANALOG 6-channel output. However, they do add their little disclaimer: Specifications are subject to change without notice

But, bottom line for me is: They say they support Analog 6ch output, so hopefully they have a way to coax the computer into providing it.

-----

They just emailed me back saying the information on their website is inaccurate, and there is no way to get 6 channel output from their computer (without an external soundcard). Now if only they'd mail me my 55$ back.
