problem with Laptop LCD

Thread Starter
hey, im still waiting for my new laptop to come in so for now i pulled out an old compaq my sister just discarded. It apparently boots up okay and I can get to the windows desktop. However after about 5 mins, the screen will turn from bright to dim for about 3 seconds...and then from dim to totally black. However, the laptop is still on and it is not locked up. I can shutdown the computer using alt+f4 so i know the laptop is still functioning except for the LCD. It seems like there might be a connection problem. The laptop is way out of warranty so i can rip apart this sucker to get an extra 2 weeks out of it if i know what to look for. I dont think the LCD is bad because it does start up each and everytime into windows and the screen stays bright for a good 5 mins each time. I know its not the msblaster virus because the laptop is still on, it does not restart. Any suggestions? Thanks.

specs of laptop
266 Mhz Pentium 2 Processor
64mb ram
8 gig hard drive

yea i know it sux but i just need it for 2 weeks until my 5680 gets here.

Do you have an external monitor that you could use? See how it runs when plugged into that, and perhaps it will get you through the interim.
