i have a Sager 8886 laptop that is just a little over 2 years old. just within the past 4 days it has been acting up bad. the screen would fade into a green color and i would have to restart. sometimes i would get a message that involves the file "ati2dvag." something to do with the ati video card. i can reporduce this over and over again. mostly happens during a game but now it happens right when the computer starts.

i updated all of the drivers to see if that would help. nothing. i re-formatted the hard drive and nothing. below is a video to show you guys what happens.

its not a big deal for right now because i went out and bought a new computer yesterday but i still want to be able to use this laptop because it is still blazing fast for a laptop.

specs

p4 2.8
1 gig ram
ati mobile 9000 64 mb video card
tons and tons of other stuff

i want to fix this laptop so i can use it as a second computer in the house.

Have you "clean out" the machine?

yes i cleaned out the heatsink and around the fans as much as i could. i dont know how to take out the fans though to get them better.

that is an ugly look in that video
when you cleaned out the heatsink did you actually remove the heatsink from the CPU?
If so did you replace any of the thermal compound?
A couple of people have had thermal issues after taking apart the heatsink but not recoating the thermal compound between the CPU and heatsink.

You didn't put any back on??

I would say thats the cause as its obviously overheating.
Why is your battery light flashing? Is it just because your running off battery?
I guess its different with your model than that of the 8890?

thanks for the help guys. i will give that stuff a shot and let you know how it goes. the battery is dead on the laptop and that is why the light is flashing.

Remember - a very light coat as that stuff goes a long way and if there is too much, you will again have heat problems.
