SXGA vs UXGA again

Hi guys,
I am still trying to make up my mind about which one to get.

For all of you that own a UXGA (1600 x 1200 res) screen could you have a look at this Linux mag web page which uses a resonably small font and tell me how you go trying to read it.

Even on my XGA (1024 x 768) I have to really *look* at it. Does it make you go blind on a UXGA?

Thanks.

i like 1600x1200 on my 19" crt but on a 15" lcd i thought it was too small. although for web pages can't you just change the text size in your browser control? maybe you should go to the local shoppe and take a look at some notebook screens and compare. bring along a CD with some test files, html, whatever to view. you will have to pretend to be seriously interested though. they will probably be mad if you revealed your really getting a sager! bahhahahah for me, i'm predicting that around sxga+ will be perfect on my future 15" sager screen.

btw what is CASV LCD? i believe someone refrred to the 5680 screen in that way.

Some web pages like the one I posted used hard coded fonts. I tried increasing the text size but it only changed some fonts. The page I posted is a good test of the 15-16" screens with 1600 x 1200 res as it is about the smallest text I have found in general browsing.

As to testing I just made a floppy with the page on it to take to one of our local stores that has a Toshy with a 1600 x 1200 screen to see what it looks like (trouble is the Toshiba doesn't have a flaming floppy in it so I gotta play USB chasers with it).

Those fonts in the linked article scale just fine... If you use a REAL browser, that is (hint: Mozilla )

CASV is the term Toshiba used to use for their LCD. it's the most gorgeous LCD you will ever see. Sager might have good LCD's but NOTHING is CASV nice.

I suppose my real question is not so much about the scaling but more about how the linked web page looks using std IE6 on a 1600 x 1200 res 15" or 16" LCD.

Thanks for the tip about mozilla

Font size on the LinMagAu site :)

Hi all,
Picked up the thread regards fonts in the referers.

I have had a little "flak" regards the "size" of the fonts on the (www.linmagau.org) LinMagAu site over the last few months..

I am currently testing a change from the standard .css (in px) to pt.

Currently it is in px, but at the end of the month when we publish the next edition it will be in pt..

Graphics and cool web things is really not my forte .. so I would be pleased with any feedback regards how you find the font in the coming edition.

Thanks

Yeah, on 1600x1200 those fonts are pretty tiny. I have to lean forward and get closer than normal to the screen to read the text, but it's doable. Uncomfortable, but readable.

Thanks for the feedback phubar.
I know the page is unusually small but it is a good test of the limits on the 1600 x 1200 res.

I.E.6.0, View\Text\Medium. It's fine print, but clear. Doable in laptop-in-my-lap mode, but I wouldn't want to read a book like that. Even brought up on my 21" CRT at 1280x1024 with Extended Monitor it's a bit too small.
