Artifacting Video Drivers - PLEASE POST!

Hello, since we have all been having artifacting and there has recently been a suggestion that it has to do with the drivers. I was wondering if everyone could post what drivers they are using if they have artifacts or even if they don't have artifacts it would be awsome to know what drivers everyone is using.

I am currently using the Omega 4.12 drivers.... and i am experiencing artifacting.

No Artifacts; Motherboard bios version 1.00.10; ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Driver for WindowsXP (Version 8.04). Requires System BIOS Verison 1.00.10.

Same as Ruffy. Also no problems.

I have the latest bios and im using the Omega drivers with no problems at all. It must be a setting somwhere that u used. I know if u use the older bios and the newer omega drivers there are issues but with everything upgraded it works fine.

Ok, I changed my drivers back to the Sager approved drivers... yes I have the new bios... The bad news is I still have artifacting... regardless of the reason my gpu is screwed up, but now when i get it back from RMA I am going to stick with the sager driver.

What abou the chipset drivers. Do you think that we can usee the new intel ones from intel.com or they will be a problem also???????

I'm using the 1.00.10 bios and 8.04 drivers. If i leave hardware acceleration on full and attempt to play a video or surf the web, I get hardcore artifacts in less than an hour. Usually around 5-10 minutes. If i turn hardware acceleration completely off, the laptop gets completely random. Sometimes it will last for 10-12 hours without artifacts. Sometimes as little as 10 minutes.
Here's the kicker though: if i run the laptop on batteries only, i do not get any artifacts. Even under full hardware acceleration. As soon as i plug in the power supply, artifact city.

odie99,

When you go on batteries only, the CPU is downclocked to about 75% of the units's normal speed (i.e., 2.6Ghz for a 3.4Ghz CPU).

Ok quick update... my computer is now artifacting No Matter What! I just turn it on and it artifacts on the startup screen and desktop screen... this is with the sager drivers... mine is being sent back sometime this week I hope. If you have artifacting do not wait till it is at this stage... send it in ASAP so that if it happens again you might still be under warranty...

Anifes,

SInce you had observed large temperature differences when you last cleaned your machine, you might want to "pop" the keyboard and blow that area out as well. There was a post about loosening a couple of screws (you'll need to look for it) that resulted in better ventilation for the GPU - you might also try that.

Those temperature differences only lasted about a day I didn't bother to repost as i should have. I would try loosening those screws but I just feel as if that is a temporary fix and it may get rid of the artifacting for a short time but no real fix, and anyway my headphone jack is broken so it will have to be sent back anyway I am afraid.

I was getting progressively worse artifacting with the 8.00 driver from the ProStar website. On a whim/hunch/wildassguess I uninstalled all ATI drivers completely (forcing WinXP to fall back to generic VGA mode), deleted all the installed driver files, and then reinstalled the 8.00 driver to the "clean" system. I haven't seen an artifact in weeks (knock virtual wood).

Where can I download the 8.04 driver from?

Note: You WILL NEED the 8790 BIOS update.

!

If you guys are talking about the same problem I've had for awhile but havn't sent in for repair yet, it's just bad wire shielding on the left side of the laptop. I get artifacts when it overheats and if I press down on the metal spot where the cd/dvd drive is it gets worse or better, depending.

I just got my 8790 in October. It is installed with:

Ultra100 v2.01.0 (Build 39)
Copyright 2001 Promise Tech.

Should I ask Sager for the BIOS update?

If you can activate "Max Fans" with the Fn+F10, you already have the correct bios version.
G-Omaha: I have the new bios ( confirmed during boot-up ) and the new ATI drivers, but my FN+F10 does nothing. The fans seems to be on all the time again, since I changed the laptops location in my office and now idles at 46 deg C.
I probably should move it back to where I had it ( more airflow to bring it down to 41 deg C).

Any ideas as to a way to test the FN+F10 switch, since my fans seems to be on all the time now? I just don't know if they are going full blast or not, since the fans come on as soon as it boots into Windows XP.
The fans will run if the unit is above 50C to start and will not turn off until it is less than 40C (old Bios). With the new BIOS, the same thing happens, except the fans will not turn off until about 36C. The Fn+F10 fan speed will sound like a ROAR. It's a bit loud. Some units do not work with the Fn+F10 (or so reported by some users). Don't know what to say.
