Commish, a Sentia will literally run rings around a 600m. It has a vastly superior display (widescreen ClearView XGA ) faster RAM, faster HDD and faster optical drive. The closest you can config a 600m to a Sentia only leaves it $300 less, for a slower machine. Take off the current Dell blowout and they pretty much cost the same.

Hey, I agree. Too much h8 around here. Then I looked at the h8 going on under your Lay off Commish post.

What???? My 1.7ghz P4 M, 64mb ATI 9000 graphics, 60 gb 7200 RPM hard drive, 48X CD-RW, SXGA+ Samsung LCD, bluetooth, wifi, XP professional....are you kidding me? You think that $15 dollar integrated graphic chip is better than the ATI card? Thats the funniest part.

And Dell runs blowouts all day, everyday.

Listen Im all for the desktops being "cooler" looking, and the Area 51M being cool looking, but lets NOT start pushing the Sentia as some awesome computer. That and the "BOT" are not very alienware.

I wouldnt even have this argument if not for the comment by someone with a delltia.

I simply went to dell's website, which says:

HDD: no 7200rpm; the 60 GB is 4200rpm.

RAM: Per Dell 266Mhz

Graphics: ATI Mobility RADEON. The Dell wins here, but the difference is insufficient to overcome the slow HDD and slow memory.

Display: SXGA; The Sentia's Clearview widescreen XGA is superior; the closest Dell equivalent would be WUXGA.

Dell does do some good things (their handhelds are best of breed for example). But to keep popping in and claiming Dell is better than AW just doesn't fly.

I have a 7200 RPM drive..what are you talking about?

So the UXGA screen is "close" to this sentia screen?

slow ram?

Man some of you are so brainwashed....

and next time you people send feedback include your screenname...I would if I sent feedback.

Like I told you before commish, I also have an area 51m which cost more than your XPS desktop

Also commish, you do not have a 48x cd/rw on your laptop... 24x is as high as they go. Second, both my lappies have dual layer dvd burners. 3rd, DELL DOES NOT OFFER 7200 RPM DRIVES on the 600m, so quit telling us yours has one. 4th, my sentia has the 2mb processor cache. Last, the sentia weighs over a pound less than the cheap looking 600m and has a clear view screen.

I am begining to doubt you even have a Desktop.... (you go to the library to post on here maybe?)

Ok Zeal enough...you bought the budget lightweight alienware and you are trying to be a cool guy. My 600m is the same thing for $1000 bucks shipped and its 2 years old. Sorry man, next time get the cash together and buy a real laptop from alienware.

Now THAT is truly impressive.

Why?

Until one year ago there were no 7200rpm notebook HDDs, yet you have one in a two year old notebook. Pentium M Dothan came out last May, yet you have it in a two year old notebook.

It's not a notebook, it's a TARDIS apparently.....

Why does every post by commish involve coupons?

You'd think what he saved was more important than how his computer performs...

Oh yeah, he bought a Dell.

Nevermind.

The Sentia and Bot are great for what they're built for. And yes, they smoke any comparably equipped Dell, no question.

Why all the Alienware bashing?

It wouldn't surprise me if Dell told him he had a 7200 rpm drive, and a pentium M Dothan...

They tell their customers regularly their systems are "as good as Alienware" but the reviews in the media say different...

And Dell customers accuse AW customers of being brainwashed, yet they don't even know the hardware they received in their coupon discounted piece of Dell...

IT may not look as cool and I admit that...but get outta dream world...
I hate to upset you Commish, but my Alienware P4 3.2 (non EE)/6800 Ultra beats your XPS on benchmarks.

I'm getting 5800 in 05, and 12,400 in 03.

Oh, and my computer was purchased a year and a half ago, though I did upgrade the vid card recently.

With your specs, you should be getting much better scores than that, or you would if you bought an Alienware...

Seems you not only got 40% off your XPS purchase price, you got 40% off the benchmarks scores too...

Guess you get what you paid for after all.

Commish, did you not even read my post??? I HAVE AN AREA 51M. I bought the sentia for school purposes. Proof?

The processor can execute commands at blazing speed, (and NOT just produce framerates in video games). I have a Gig of DDR2, I have an Audigy 2 sound card, I have a460 watt PS, a PCI express mobo with USB 2.0, 2 firewire ports. I have an X800 XT 256mb graphics card running at 504/500.

So do you REALLY believe that because 3dmark shows a gain that my XPS is being blown away in regular apps or in games? Or do you think that for 2100 bucks and a 4 month old computer Im not doing so bad?

Before you make your comebacks, remember, the ALX is a cool machine...no one is arguing that. But does it REALLY blow my XPS away? $8000 bucks away?
LOL!

Hammerhead, he didn't even read my post. I bought an area51m back in feb as well.

I have a credit card and a similar income to DB, I can order an ALX if I felt the need and was less careful with my cash. Im not some jealous college kid, Im simply stating that when I PERSONALLY debated all high end systems I came back to Dell, and the 40% off coupon sealed it. I just cant justify a 3dmark gain as a reason to drop more than triple to 4 times the amount on an ALX...my XPS does NOT get blown away, even though it will do SOMEWHAT less in benchmark programs.

The "hard" reality is that hardware is the same, an X800 is an X800, a high end P4 and a high end FX, its all high end...the one who gets it for the lesser price is the winner, the people who pay quadruple what its worth make the computer and hardware makers very rich people...
Uh, the hardware is not the same unless Dell changed their proprietary motherboard policy overnight.

Last time I saw similarly configured XPS, and Area 51's in PC Gamer, they gave the Dell a 76%, and the AW a 93%.

There simply is no comparison.

If you can be happy with an XPS, more power to you, but if you want performance, get an AW.

And you seem to be having problems with pricing Commish. Last time I checked an XPS against an AW, the XPS was more expensive for the "same" hardware. And the AW came with a real motherboard with a functional bios.

Keep pushing your coupons, it's all you got.
