why is it so goddamned round?!

curves are such a cop-out in formal design.

Give me some dangerous angles.

I agree with everyone, and like I read before in some forum "I want some WUXGA so that I feel like my eyes are bleeding from so much resolution"

Hilarious...

So is it WXGA? I could live with that, I suppose, depending on what sort of viewing angles it's got.
WSXGA+ would be nice, of course... Maybe my eyesight is too bad to appreciate WUXGA I guess they'll bleed faster than other people's.

I'm assuming they just listed the base screen and aren't showing the options they have available. It is a bit ludicrous to not offer high resolution options, considering the video card and that this is 2005 (and not a powerbook. lol).

Well, shouldn't be similar to the Z71A. I think the only difference between the two is the video card. no?

I could paint that.

From what I was told, it will be available very soon around the corner. They should be offering it on their site anytime now.
Does that mean tomorrow, or next week, or in two or three weeks? Not that I'm impatient to see what they say about this thing or anything, of course...

No idea. Their website said Feb, so I would assume before the end of this month.

No infra red or bluetooth. I need these features for use with my cellphone.

At least it has 5 USB ports. Most I've seen on a laptop.

Im dissapointed in the aesthetics of this laptop as well. You'd think that Asus would continue their trend of sexy laptops like the S5N/M5N. The new V6V, W3, W5 series are a testament to that.

I don't think it's ugly. It's not as stylish as the W3, from the pictures I've seen, but it by no means a brick or anything. It's just kind of... vanilla, I guess. I'm still waiting to hear how much it will cost before deciding to be excited or not, though.

Is there any indication of what the W3 will cost, btw?

Last I heard it will start at around the cost of a man's testicles plus the virginity of his first, second (and or third daughter). I think the W3A/N is around $2200 starting. I dont even want to think of the price of the more powerful W3V with the new Intel chipset and the ati x600 when it comes out.

The W3V will be the perfect laptop for me, gaming on the go with modest weight and widescreen. But as I have stated, it's going to cost an arm and a leg.

$2200 is just a tad more than I'd been wanting to pay... For that price I can get a powerbook, after all. Granted, those are larger than a 14" widescreen, but it's pretty much impossible to find a 15" notebook that weighs as little as the powerbook.
Oh well, the W3 will be something I can lust for but never buy, I guess.

Yeah, me too, except I really need the W3V for work! If you want overpriced goods, check out the prices for the W1N. It's getting the new chipset soon + an upgrade to x600 (or x700...im not too sure) and the price is going up by $300 I think.

What work do you need the W3V for?
And yeah, I've been kind of amazed at how overpriced the W1 already. Especially since it's got a 9600 MR w 64MB graphics card...
I guess it is pretty, though.

I'm tempted by the ultra-portable idea, actually. Thinking it would be nice to just always take my laptop with me.
How is the screen on yours?
