Asus Z71V Spec *Available Here* - Page 4

The actual thickness of the unit is a bit misleading. The overall thickness of the unit is 1.12 inches, but that is with the little rubber feet removed from the underside of the unit, anotherwords lying flat on a bench. With the rubber feet inserted, the unit is closer to 1.4 inches in height

thats not including the monitor lid, correct? Thanks for the clarification

I love how they didn't include parallel, serial, or any of ther other useless ports for a laptop. Sweet zombie jesus I want one like now.

Drool... I think I may have just found my future laptop. Just priced on out at istnc's site with similar specs to the 8104, and I can get it with an extended warranty for less $ than the Acer. The main differences I see are no integrated bluetooth (istnc lists a USB bluetooth option) and the 6600 vs. x700 (similar performance, from what I've read so far).

I hope whoever gets their hands on one of these first will give us a detailed review!

I have been real impressed with the Z71V so far ( we received a pre-production evaluation unit ), however, we havent been able to test this unit with a SATA hard drive yet ( hard drive manufacturers are dragging their heels ) The only thing I wish ASUS would have done differently is used a different chassis for this notebook. The Z71V is identical in appearance to the Z71A, just different internals.
We have almost pre-sold all of the initial units allocated to us for Mid-March delivery, so there is alot of hype right now on these notebooks, hopefully they'll exceed everyones expectations

What's the screen quality like on your eval unit?
Not having seen alot of other notebooks ( Acer/Toshiba etc ) it would be extremely unfair for me to make a comparison. But the actual screen quality and resolution is nothing less than awesome. At this point, all I can say is that ASUS really did their homework on the Z71V. Neither Quanta or Compal has anything compared to the ASUS at this point in time, but I'm sure they wont be far behind
post #68 of 245
how are u selling it cheaper than the m6bne, speced out as similarly as possible?
We are charging based on our cost for the unit. I am sure that ASUS will start raising prices if they see a big demand for this notebook, but as it stands, those are the current costs.

Display Quality?

ISTNC,

Can you describe the screen a little better? Is the 15.4" WSXGA comparable to the Bright/Glossy type displays like Xbrite/TruBright/Trulife/Clearview, etc, etc? How does it compare?

All info is truly appreciated!
Thanks!

Unfortunately, the Z71V does not have the Xbrite type display, currently, that will only be found in the ASUS V6 notebook. The Z71V does have a bright display, combined with the ALS, but glossy, nada.
Hope this helps

WIth this, add 60GB 7200 RPM HD, add 1GB memory and 1.8GHZ processor the price is around 1600ish.

If Asus plan to increase the price, I might as well get the Acer Travelmate 8100...hehehe

But, with this price, it is a GREAT deal!!!!
Why does this always have to happen in the computer industry? I just barely ordered a M6Ne after weeks of searching for the perfect laptop in my price range, and then they go ahead and release the Z71V. I can't help but thinking, "If I'd ordered a week or two later, I would have chosen this system." I want a laptop that's going to last a few years and the Z71V with Sonoma, DDR2, SATA and excellent video card would go a long way in that pursuit.

My laptop hasn't even arrived yet, and already I'm feeling a little buyer's remorse! Any one want to offer any consolation?

The more I ponder about it, the more I am fix on buying it. hehehe

Asus Z71V
Intel Pentium-M 2.0Ghz
1.0GB PC4200
60GB 7200 RPM HD

That will go nicely, especially for me to play EQ2 on it hehehe
post #75 of 245
Scott, you should contact the place you ordered it from and see if they'll be kind enough to let you return it for the z71V. Don't even open the package and send it back, it will then still be unused and they should be able to still sell it as new. Just a thought.

Smilepak, i can vouche for istnc, they run an excellent business and will take care of you, great customer service. I bought my m6ne from them a couple weeks ago and can say that i'm very content with the purchase (except hearing that a newly revised version is coming out soon after the fact kinda hurts). So if you looking at the z71v, i'd definitely check them out. I made last minute changes to my order and they took care of me no questions asked.

The units are equipped to support both PATA and SATA drives ( the unit contains an adapter to switch from PATA to SATA drives )
We have performed some extensive testing on the Eval unit we received from ASUS, I think this unit will be their top seller until the newly revised M6NE/M6BNE hits the streets with the 915 chipset, expected release date is end April/beginning May
Are the new m6(b)ne,s going the adapt a new chassis, or use the same design with new internals? thanks Rick.
I have a feeling the new M6 series will just be the V6...
But istnc refered to the V6 in different reply, not to the new m6ne?
