Memory Stick Pro Duo won't read

Laptop won't recognize Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo when put in card reader. SD works fine, don't know about the other card slots since I don't have that kind of memory.

And yes I am using the adapter that comes with the Pro Duo.

What could be the problem?

Might stipulate the size of the memory stick, as that could matter. Just a suggestion.

I have had similar problems with the pro duo memory. I was using an adapter for a Sandisk 256 meg card. I plugged it into the slot, and it displayed fine at first. Explorer showed the images that were on the card. I did a copy paste from the card to my computer, and that's when weird stuff happened. It gave me some... error... that I don't remember, then it stopped working. It only copied over one of the images. I took out the card, and plugged it back into the slot, and it told me that the card was not formatted. That's odd. So I plugged the card back into my camera, and it gave me an error number, one that I also don't remember, and would not let me reformat the card. SO my camera couldn't format, or recognize the card, and my computer couldn't format or recognize the card, so I was frustrated to find that my card was no longer useable. So I took it back and exchanged it for a new one, and I haven't had the nerve to really try it again since I'm afraid that this reader will eat up another card... All I can say is that I have noticed some odd activity when it comes to the pro duo cards. I have used the CF slot and it works wonderfully, but the pro duo just doesn't work right. Go figure.

I contacted Sandisk, they gave me some crap about the firmware on my camera...HUH. The cards work great in my camera and I used the link they gave me to check the firmware with Sony. No problems there. I emailed Sandisk back and re-emphazied (read was smartass) that the problem did not lay with my camera or my SONY pro duo cards reading in my card reader on my LAPTOP or Desktop, only there cards. It is worth noting that the page they directed me to mentions a known problem with their cards, 128, 256 and 512. I ordered a sony 512 and will wait to here from Sandisk and will keep this thread posted.

yeah, let me know how the sony sticks work. I bought sandisk initially because its price was so low. I hope you have better luck with the sony brand.

I'm having trouble with my SD card in my 9860, it either doesn't recognise it's there or it says it needs formatting. The card and it's contents are fine and have been for the last year and reads perfectely well on my Tosh.

OMG, SanDisk is a bunch of morons. They emailed me back to tell me to check the drivers on my Sony Laptop. So I had to retell them the story as "if they were children". I wish they would either refund my cash or send me new cards. The Sony Pro Duo works like a champ.

As for SD slot, I use a 512 SD (SanDisk) in my Treo 600 and swap them back and forth with no problems. So sorry for your problems with SD don't know what to tell you. What device are you using your SD in?
