Whats a good way to tell if you have one of these??

The easiest way is to put a black background/wallpaper on and then look for any bright(megenta/red, green, blue) pixels... then put a WHITE background and look for BLACK pixels.

thanks that should help

I'd recommend not looking for them, because once you find them, it will drive you crazy

On a dark background, take a close look at your screen and look for specs of light. If it is a a stuck or dead pixel, you will notice right away. There are programs out there that will determine if your lcd has dead pixels but if you dont notice them with the naked eye, then I wouldn't bother.

Take JJordan's advice.

Indeed.. if you don't notice them during your normal usage, don't bother looking for them...
they will indeed drive you wild.. it'll be like an eye, staring at you contantly that you can't help but notice.

So I just received my ASUS M6bne today and of course I had to look for dead pixels. Low and behold I have one dead pixel (white) smack in the middle of the screen, I really don't notice it on most applicatons. You are right, once you know it is there, you will go crazy. My only question is.... would you send back because of one dead pixel? I love this computer, compared to the Dell 9200 WUXGA I just sent back!! There is no comparison in the build quality.

Thank you for any response, I really do love this forum.

Quick question...... are white pixels stuck or dead?

techically, I think you need TWO dead pixels in the centre of the screen to quality for a replacement...
but anyway, I have 2 dead pixels on mine... one near the very top left, and one near the bottom right of the screen (somewhat near the middle.. but not really).

I've grown quite used to them...

I think they qualify as STUCK pixels.

I heard you could tap on the screen a bit and if it is only stuck, it might become unstuck. I think that it is a myth though because I have tapped quite a few times!! delicately of course!

Seriously though, if you were me, would you send it back??

I was told I had fifteen days from Discount Laptops, unconditional.

Why is this such a frequent occurrence on M6 screens? I had an Asus M6 too with a dead pixel.

If you buy a notebook from somewhere like bestbuy, and request that they power it up before you buy it so you could check it out.. would they?
It is very unlikely that Best Buy or any retailer would break the seal on a new computer box to test it for dead pixels before you buy the computer.
Well, they come as barebone units... so they have to break the seal if you want them to install the hard drive, CPU, RAM, and wireless PCI cards
If you want to build the units yourself, I don't think they'll break the seal.

So the first DVD I put in the ASUS (Seinfeld) will not support the format. I know this drive was +/- read and write, whats up with that. Do I have some bad luck or what
post #17 of 20
Perhaps it's a region issue? Does it just not read the disc, or do you have problems playing it?
It will not play, it says does not support this format.
Perhaps get a replacement drive?
That drive should without a doubt be able to play a mainstream DVD...
