I know the head unit in my car has a AUX line input. It's the same style as a headphone jack, so to use it all you would need is a chord from radio shack with a male stereo headphone connector on each end. I don't know if there's an easier/cheaper way to do it but worse come to worse you could just install a reciever with a line in yourself and connect your i-pod to that. Some even have the AUX input in that back so you could wire it from there to say right near the passenger seat so it would be nice and out of sight. Search on www.crutchfield.com if you decide to go this route. They're a really good sight and they even include a wiring harness so it's VERY easy to install youself, i didn't have ANY car experience and i did the head unit and speakers myself. They even have customized instructions for your car.

Hope that helps a little.

I recently got the iTrip FM transmitter, and let me tell you, it BLOWS EVERY OTHER TRANSMITTER OUT OF THE WATER! It is the most impressive transmitter I've EVER seen! I cannot say enough good things about this! I mean, it still is FM-transmission, but if you don't have a line-in on your deck (or a cassette adapter) then this is for you!

I even can play it at home (while on the couch w/ the sager) and transmit to my stereo system many feet away w/o fuzz or static.

I'm not sure it works with other mp3 players, as it gets it's power from the audio/remote microjack so it doesn't use batteries... it also uses mp3's to control it (change to any frequency).

A very good design overall.

You can either get an FM transmitter or you can try pulling out your CD player and checking if there are aux RCA jacks on the back. If there are you'll have to run some RCA cable out the back of the thing, through the dash and out near the passenger foot well. It really isn't as complicated as it sounds. Just get a metal hanger and some tape to secure the RCA cord to the hanger.

Soundfeeder Wireless Audio Adapter, sf121 (battery operated transmitter)

The SF121 SoundFeeder is the ideal solution for you to be able to play your iPod through your existing car stereo system. It is an FM modulated device that transmits the sound from your iPod directly to your car's FM radio, providing amplified stereo sound. The SoundFeeder 121 is powered by 2 AAA batteries which are included with your order. Just connect the SF121 audio cord to your iPod's headphone jack, and tune in an unused FM station and you'll enjoy top notch clear sound quality. Unlike the traditional cassette adapter offered by many companies, SoundFeeder does not lose sound quality over time by wearing down the heads in your cassette deck. Additionally, many of you iPoders will find this the perfect solution to newer model cars not equipped with a cassette deck.

Two options FM modulator, which you can pick up cheap off ebay, but sorta annoying to wire in (power wise) and a head unit with auxilary input.
The kind of FM modulater you would want wouldn't require power really. Just put two AA batteries into it and it works perfect. It's just a little box with a headphone cord coming out of it. You set it to a frequency such as 88.9, and then you change your car stereo to 88.9 and it will pickup the output from the Ipod, (or any other device you plug it into).

Well it depends on what you get, having mine wired in, means it always works, no stupid batteries to replace, and mine happens to use RCA cables, just depends on what you want. Wiring it in was a fun little project. And if your in a city enviroment being able to control the strenth of the signal and which frequency it plays on is nice.
