Ordering a Precision M70 today.

I will do heavy gaming on this lappy as well as Maya work and i have read about the ugliness one gets when changing from the native resolution.

I really want the wuxga screen and the question is:

Will things look shitty when i play games in lower resolution or is this more of a problem when working with it cuz i dont think even this lappy will handle HL2 and Doom3 in 1920*1200 well?

Thanks for the info dudes, especially from Ofelas who seems to know stuff.....

It won't look as great. I ran my 8600 at lower resolutions in FFXI and it wasn't terrible but it would have been nicer at regular screen size. It will be more of an issue with games than working. That's why I went with the WSXGA+ but I won't be doing a lot of graphic work, just minor stuff.

All LCD's are like that. I suggest the WSXGA+ if gaming is a LARGE concern since you will need to turn the resolution down a lot on the WUXGA.

yeah, i figured out that ill have to crank the resolution down to game, but isnt that true even if i go with wsxga? Not many games playable in 1680*1050 with high quality...

Does the wuxga look better on lower res then the wsxga?

Still confused, ordering postponed a day.

Shep, I have a UXGA screen on my 8600... I took my system to quake con last year, if that gives you any idea what kind of gamer I am. Running a game like HL2 or Doom 3 at a lower resolution really isn't that bad.. Don't get a lesser screen, I personally feel they're simply of a lesser quality on the whole.

It's 1600x1200 that'll drive you a little batty, as sometimes you'll get the sides chopped off, so it can maintain a native resolution. But I typically play all my games at 1280x1024, which seems to scale pretty nicely on the 1920x1200 screen..

Besides, if you plan on doing a lot of gaming at home, you're getting an m70, why not get a port replicator and get a real keyboard / mouse / monitor for it? (I have two myself, one for work, one for home)..

Cheers,

dextius

ps. I'm planning on getting the m70 as soon as I get some benchmarks on the 1400..

I remember playing Halo on my WUXGA M60 at I think 1280 resolution? From what I remember it looked pretty good.

Post pics and benchmarks...I wanna see that workhorse NVidia card doing it's thing. If only the M70 had at least one firewire plug...for goodness sake.

ya, thats one of the problems i have with the D810. Anyone know if there is any firewire - usb adaptor type stuff?
