Hello. I'm new to this discussion forum and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this thread, so hopefully someone can redirect me if it is not.
I am currently shopping around for a new notebook and could use a little help. I have no experience with notebooks and don't really know what to look for in terms of general hardware, or how various products from different companies compare. Also, I have read that the advent of 64-bit technology is upon us; how does AMD's 64-bit processor compare to Intel's current Pentium 4, M and Centrino processors? Does anyone know the status of Intel's work on 64-bit techonolgy, and is it worth waiting for? Perhaps more fundamentally, (and this will give away my great ignorance) what are the advantages of 64-bit technology in general (more specifically, in a notebook)?
Anyhow, I'm looking for some general advice about buying a new notebook and am hoping I can find some here. I would appreciate any time and insight given in response to my query. Thanks.

I have just read DDDa's very good thread called "Ten Points Every Beginner Should Know" and in light of that would like to make some more specific additions to my initial inquiry (though the above questions still stand open to suggestions).
I suppose I should start with budget. My range is between $1,500 and $2,000 Canadian.
I am looking for a desktop replacement; I will not be taking the notebook around much. I do not want to sacrifice performance for lighter weight and longer battery life.
I do some gaming, but nothing with very intense graphics. However, I am not really satisfied with the performance of my current Radeon 64mb card (even for something like WC3). Suggestions?
I need at least a 40gb hard drive. A few seconds of loading time does not matter to me, if that is all that higher rpm means, but I'm not sure if there is more to it...
A 14"-15" screen is big enough.
I hope this is a good start. Just let me know if you need more specs.
