Will the 9860 modular video card be able to upgrade to a higher performance down the road?

you mean unlike the video card upgrades already offered? I suppose if/when video card properties fundamentally change, no. If they stay in line with the 6800 rev1/x800/6800 rev2 type progression that have already been available for upgrade, well, then,...yes

well i know about the revisions, but what about a new card. Like in the XPS you could upgrade when the new card came out. Like lets say the X900 comes out....

theoretically yes, but i am sure, there will be at one point issues with thermal envelope. so practically i would asume you will be able to upgrade for a while and then it will be not possible anymore. pci-e is a new standard, so i think its save to say it will be around for a couple years till we get sth new. will it be userupgradeble? poss with restrictions, even for the x800 ppl had to send in their older models for heatprotection mods.

Well Clevo must test and aprove new cards. It's not like you can just replace the chip. Clevo will still need to make the card that fits in the 9860/7620. Heat would be a factor.
