Dell Latitude D610 Review - Page 5

I received my D610 this morning. I couldn't get it to produce any headphone noise on AC or battery. The quality of the sound wasn't great, but I could easily attribute that to my crappy headphones or the onboard audio implementation. Regardless, there's zero noise when I don't have any music playing.

Scipio, what's the status of your notebook? Hope you get it soon so we can get more thorough reviews from you....

Funny that you ask....I still have not recieved it. Im calling Dell Saturday morning to see what the situation is.

The tech guy left me a message telling me that they didnt have the motherboard in stock at their tech repair location on the day that they recieved it. He stated that they would get the MoBo within 3-5 business days.

Its been 7 Business days, and 2 weekend days, for a total of 9 days.I should have it in my arms. Dells service has been courteous, yet slow. Which is surprising considering that when my dearest mother had an issure with her desktop computer, the situation was resolved with a new computer in her hands within 3 business days.

Ill post an update about my phone call with tech support tomorrow morning.

In case you call them, pls. check with them if they have a fix already on headphone issue as well.

I have been trying to call them even thou my laptop is not with me yet to see if they know the headphone issue already and fix my laptop before they deliver it to me. I got the chance to talk to somebody & another one replied to my email but both of them said they do not know of any known headphone issue.

I am just hoping not all D610 is affected coz there are people who posted that they don't hear any noise in headphone.

Well, Dell called me before I could call them. I am now in an angered stage. The Tech part has been delayed again, and my mother board will probably not get shipped until another 3-5 business days...lets see here...with this weekend and the next 5 business days...puts me at 18+ days without the compie...im very sour.

This is most likely not true but they might be stalling you so go are over your 21 day period to return the laptop for a full refund.

No one is going to answer me about the frequency of the Radeon X300 on the D610?

Radlinker says that the core is 297MHz and the memory is 216MHz.

Well, Dell certainly seems to getting the production process of the D610 faster. I ordered mine last Monday (28th) and it says it has been shipped today. So hopefully I should have it by midweek and I will let you all know about the headphone thing to see if they have fixed it yet.

If I get a chance, I will also try to run some benchmarks on it.

Thank you very much, it's exactly what I wanted to hear: The Mobility X300 provides exactly the same performance as a MR9600 (64mb, non pro).

I doubt that the problem is fixed yet as dell has not gotten to the point where they are even acknowledging that the problem exists

Other than the headphone problem, good comp though! My anger over the issue has lessened over the weekend (coincidentially while I was playing hl2 with high settings ) and I'm growing to like this lappy. Enjoy your purchase!

Same with me. Mine is set to arrive tomorrow. I ordered around the same time as you did.

Seems like they are using the Amazon shipping estimate philosophy - give yourself way too much time and when you beat the estimate by so much, customer feels pleased.

I'm very curious about this headphone problem. I can say that if it's as bad as some people here are reporting, mine will definitely going back. I have low tolerance for such quality control issues. I owned a D600 and sent it back due to the hot left palmrest issue. Keeping my fingers crossed here.

I've had my 600m notebook since Nov. and today I decided to use some headphones, yeah I know I should have tried it out in the beginning. But I'm having the same issue, I just hear static in the background. I know my old Inspiron 5000 never had this problem. Can I do anything to solve this problem and is it a problem with all of the I600m and LD600/LD610 notebooks?

Spoked directly with dell tech support. I told them that I had the headphone audio problem and that since they still have my laptop at their Tech Depot to please thoroughly check the audio out for any problems before they send my laptop back to me. The tech person did not mention anything about the audio problem being a widespread issue, but that could just be Dell telling their employees to not acknowledge the problem.

If you have the problem, but have not called tech support, please do. Even if you dont use the headphones that often, Im sure if they recieve a certain percentage of calls on an issue they will address the problem. Its only a couple minutes of your time, and it not only helps you, but it helps everybody else. Who wants to spend their hard earned money on a defective piece of equipment?

Did you speak to a guy/gal from the tech depot where they are fixing your notebook or the standard indian support? I remember asking for the tel number for the depot where they fixed it but they said they don't have it/can't give it out.

Power to you guys and I hope dell addresses this. From my experience, this won't happen. The defective bluetooth connector on d600/600m motherbooards (described in the link of my signature) has been a problem for about 2 years now and dell has done nothign to address the problem. Oh they know about it alright and I suspect they don't do anything about it because 1. not many people are opting for bluetooth 2. It's more cost effective to wait until the product is discontinued than to fix it.

I spoke directly to their depot tech staff, and to a customer representative...I had each one give me a dispatch number, so that I would have references, just incase.

Exactly, look at the major car company, for a recall they almost wait for a couple of death... dell dont care about this, because maybe 2% or less will return the system because of this issue.

Does everybody's D610's battery light blink (mayber every 7 seconds or so) when it is charging? I would think it was supposed to stay solid, but I'm not sure. Just wanted to check. Thanks

That happens when the battery is almost full. This is done to avoid overcharging the battery. There is also a beeping/buzzing sound (sounds like morse code) that comes with that. It is normal and will eventuall stop.
