9860: Another HalfLife 2 question, this time dealing with the sound stutter

Any of you who have played HalfLife 2 probably know what I'm talking about. The problem has become so widespread it's pathetic. Has anyone figured out how to stop the sound stutter on the 9860? If so, please post your solutions here! Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem on my desktop, never could figure out why it was doing that!

I decreased the amount of stuttering by increasing the amount of RAM I had from 512 to 1024. Didn't eliminate the stuttering but it really helped. Made the game more playable.

I ended up changing some settings on my GX7 to remove the stutter. It was basically removing the 5.1 sound. However, I think - and it has been about a month, there was a fix from realtek that ended up solving the problem.

Not sure what chipset is on the 9860, however, you might want to see if there is a driver fix that would solve that problem.

getting a faster hard drive decreased my stuttering tenfold, with my old 4200 rpm drive it was really bad. Now i am at max settings and 800x600. Stutter still, but just barely, and it doesn't take much away from the game. I would say the best way to get rid of stuttering is to lower your HL2 graphics settings/resolution. There's a lot of textures in that game remember.

I dont have the stuttering problem on my 9860....but i do have it on my acer travelmate 8104, which has the X700, 1gb of ram, and 5400rpm drive.....I was able to almost completely eliminate it by changing my swapfile settings in windows....made it a static pagefile size of 1gb....(min and max)

I had the same problem for a long time, but I fixed it by screwing around with the audio settings. Check, especially, your sound mode; set it to Stereo Headphones, perhaps--whether or not you use stereo headphones--and it should do a lot to tone the problem down.
