Yes, I get that as well. But none the less, its doesnt work!
To see if your Bluetooth is fully installed and working it must be present in the DEVICE MANAGER.
Not only that, I had to go through the trouble of finding out how to and then uninstalling/disablleing the WinXp SP2 Bluetooth support, otherwise other Bluetooth devices (ie USB nodes) do not work due to a liscense for each Bluetooth device & software. U cant simply mix and match them.

It works now, but every time and again, when I pack my notebook and run out, I tend to forget to drag the USB node with me. Thus creating a ruckous.

I mostly use the Bluetooth connection to connect to the mobile internet and transfer pictures/videos with my cingular camera/video phone.

Works great, when the bluetooth works.....

If anyone out there has ANY FEEDBACK on the actual Bluetooth usage on their DV1170US or similar, please let me know.

Thanks again guys...

Otherwise I have been getting about 2hrs 15mins to 2hrs 30mins life leaving everything on and at full blast.
To recharge the battery is relatively fast, about 45-60 mins.

The included remote control does work with MS Powerpoint presentations slideshows. There are no documentaion for this, but none the less, it works.

Norton Antivirus 2005 is still giving me trouble with error messages from time to time and appears to be diminishing.
I have obtained a similar version of Mcafee and I plan to install that soon.

I have been able to load and play some older games, Rainbow 6 and eRacer works just fine.
They arent high end games, but then again I really don’t want to spend to much time gaming.

CONS:
The screen has a very high reflection from the glare but I guess that’s a trade off from the execllant screen image quality and a lower price machine.

I was comparing this machine with the Sony Vaio FS550 which is similarly equiped, but has less options than this HP. However, the Vaio has a better screen the HP appeared to me a much more productive/cost efficient machine:

CONCLUSION:
Even though it says “Pavillion Entertainment Notebook” on the Keyboard, it seems to work just fine as a travel, and work notebook.

I work with network database management, web design and lite graphics design.
This machine seems to be working just fine for me for the time being.
Hi Alex,
U said that video memory is dedicated, but nowhere i could confirm this piece of information. Can U confirm Ur source....

Yes its a typo/mistake...all the DV1000 series laptops have integrated graphics.
The DVD speeds may vary but from what I know they burn dvd's at around 2X.

Off the two i.e. DV1150US and Dv1170US, taking out of consideration the additional 20GB HDD and 100K processor speed? Is there any other diff between the two?

Also can someone tell me how does DVD write speed matters whetehr it is 2x/4x/8x ,

Other than the processor and the HDD there appears to be no other diferences between the two.. You can probably configure on Hp the same specs as the 2 for a lower price..

For DVD facts and more...Scroll down to Section [4] for the DVD speed answer.

I also purchased the dv1170us. I am having problems when viewing Wide screen DVD's. The screen leaves about an inch space on the top and bottom. I contacted HP and was informed that some notebooks have a feature that stretch the image to fill the screen; however, this notebook doesn't have that feature.
Has anyone found a way to overcome this?

I think its the nature of widescreen formats which leave that annoying band on the top and the bottom...I have'nt found any program which streches the image to fit the whole screen. Even if you strech the image it would probably look ugly(everything being streched beyond the standard format)

DV 1040 great buy! graphics card awful for games

My bluetooth works great and my wireless is amazing. I'll never use wires again! I love my laptop so much, although knowing this was not a gaming laptop I bought it anyway for the size, and lightness, and long battery life. I am very upset that I can not play counter-strike source on this machine the grahpics card just flat out can't hack it. So that really really upsets me considering that I payed 1499 for this computer back in Janurary. Wish HP could have just put in a better graphics card. Other then that the only other con I can think of is the screen. I can deal with the glare but man the angles up and down on this thing are awful you gota have this lappy right smack dab infront of you to be able to see that great crystal clear image this bad boy can produce.

by the way if anyone has found a way to play cs source on this lappy please Let me know!!!!!

If only I could change out or put in a new graphics card.

Hello to all again....
Yes, I havent been able to find the documentation online supporting the 64mb dedicated video card, but I was pretty sure I have seen that when I had messured up the machine.
But then again, when I made this purchase, this machine was also supposed to have Bluetooth, according to the documentation I had at the time, and it doesnt (or at least not on the version I have)....
But I will try to find that documentation when I return home from my trip if I have a hard copy of it.

However, Currently, all the current online docs states thats its shared and not dedicated.
As for DVD-+R/W, my DV1170us has a Pioneer DVR-K14.
It should burn DVD-/+Rs at 8x, DVD-/+ RWs at 4x, CDR/RW at 24x
Now heres the kicker! According to this hyperlink from Pioneer, its also a dual layer/DL read and write!
Anyone have any feedback on that?

As for the DVD widescreen issue... I get about 1/4 inch black strip on the top and the bottom of the video image....
Ive been using WINDVD 5 and the DVD Video seems some what proportional to screen...
I have noticed some movies may have a differant cut than the actual widescreen cut version, other than that, it really doesnt bother me.

High End games really do not play well at all, DOOM 3, Half Life 2 play slow even at 800x600 res. Space Interceptor doesnt even load due to a graphics card error. So far the only game that I have loaded and executed fairly well is Prince of Persia - Warrior Within, but I had to reduce it to 800x600res....
This is definetly NOT a gamer PC.....

Regarding the black band on top and bottom of the screen, I get that as well but I dont even notice it ater a while.

hi there,
I bought a dv1000 (which seems to be a dv1004ap, but I'm not sure... arghhh beginners..) and the guy told me it's bluetooth.
I can't find anything about it neither in the laptop control panel, or in the doc.

you guys are talking about bluetooth of the dv1170us, what about the dv1000 ?
thanks in advance

When I watch DVDs with Intervideo WinDVD, there is a box that allows me to change the screen size to widescreen. It took me a while to find it on the control panel for the program but it works great!

i cant find any option of BT in the notebook .... i love the notebook but it tends to get really slow handling high res graphics and my main work on the machine happens to be on photoshop and flash ... i settled for this notebook because it was light weight looked sexy and every other thing was nice as for the gpu i thought oh well i can rather live without playing on the notebook and get a notebook which will help in my practical life ..

but i think so the book is seriously lacking behind by the gpu reason .. my machine specs are as follows

1.7 Ghz
1GB Ram ( 512x2 )
60 GB HDD
DVDRW
Windows XP Home

DV1135ap I presume your turning on the wireless/bluetooth at the wireless switch!

Only then will bluetooth be activated and appear under device manager.
