Drivers for 8887 LCD

since my last question went so well, I thought I would try this. What drivers does everyone use for the LCD on their 8887. Right now with 2 LCD's...laptop and external, WinXP Pro lists them as 'default monitor' I would prefer to have actual drivers for each respective LCD loaded.

As a follow up, what does everyone find is their best resolution and refresh rate for the 8887 LCD ?

I use the defaults for everything, particularly since I hookup to several different externals. I have seen the Display\Settings identify specific monitors. You could probably get the specifics loaded by attaching the CRT, shutting off the LCD, and going into Monitor\Properties to update the CRT drivers. I haven't heard of anyone here doing that, so it may be more trouble than you'll get results in return.

REF the LCD refresh rate, there are a lot of threads here that say LCDs don't even have a refresh as such, that the default is set to 60, and they don't recommend resetting it to anything higher. There's no specifics on whether damage will occur. You'd have to research the science of LCDs, but these forums would be a place to start. As for CRTs, set them to whatever refresh they will bear and suits you. Good luck!

i don't think their are drivers for the LCD as there isnt really anything the drivers would enhance. i also belive 60 hrtz is the max of the screen. setting it higher makes it run at 60 either way.

So XP is lieing to me when is says my refresh is set to 75 on both LCD's ??

Well, it's not lying to you but lcd's aren't affected by the refresh rate. It' all about the response time of the pixels. But you should leave your refresh rate at 60 just to be safe.

Here, once again for you listeners, is the truth of the matter:

LCD monitors DO NOT REFRESH Think of their refresh rates as 0, if you must. The monitor tells a pixel to either be ON or OFF. No updates are done! Ever! Only when the state is changed (and that's when the rise/fall times come in)

ALL LCD's have a 60Hz refresh in the U.S., as that would be what the cycling of the electric current is that powers the thing... but it's misleading, it doesn't mean it's any FASTER or SLOWER than a CRT which fires the electron gun against the phosphorous-coated glass to update images XXX times per second (aka Refresh rates).

So, if XP says 75Mhz, it is LYING, unless you are in a country with a 75Mhz electric cycle in the current.
